Very proud of 4H Alarm Robotics, the regional high school robotics team that I’ve been managing for 10 years, for winning the 2026 Impact Award at URI this weekend. Please check out the link to the video they put together - so many impressive things about this group of 32 8th-12th grade students, the 13 adult mentors that guide them, and the parents who support them.

Our high school students of 4H Alarm Robotics are getting ready for competition this weekend. This is unofficial competition and most robots are only half built, our robot can go under the bar or over the ramp, will be shooting many balls roughly 8” in diameter.

Very cool to reunite with UNH Sigma Nu fraternity brothers and good friends for 37+ years to contribute our skills to Habitat for Humanity in NH. Bonus to have active brothers from our chapter join us and incredible to have founding brother #3 working beside active brother #1,000. Great people, big impact.

Another great accomplishment from our awesome 4H Alarm team members. Great to see so many 4H Alarm t-shirts on all those future robot builders!

This is why the building code requires a geotechnical engineer like me to design retaining walls higher than 4 feet. This wall probably didn’t have proper anchoring, drainage or neither.

I developed this short video on Leadership for our recently appointed leaders within 4H Alarm regional high school robotics team, but it is a good refresher for anyone who has the 13 minutes to watch it. My apologies to the US Army for using an old quote on Leadership - it is not their current definition (which validates my point in the video).

Leadership concepts from 30+ years of observation.

Different STEAM event by our regional high school 4H Alarm Robotics team, same fantastic impact.

I manage 4H Alarm Robotics (4H FIRST Robotics Team 2079: ALARM) consisting of 31 high school students from 11 different towns, but it is the hard work of Pallavi Naravane, Ajit Naravane and our student members who create such a great experience for our future STEAM builders and leaders. So great to see.

Proud to support STEAM and witness the development of these future leaders. I’m quoted as the team leader but a majority of the credit goes to our fantastic list of dedicated volunteer mentors who donate 15-20 hrs/week during competition season to share their diverse set of skills with these students.

We are very grateful to 4H Foundation’s Pilot Grant Program for awarding our team a generous grant in June to purchase robot parts, including swerve modules, encoders, motors, and gears.

4H Foundation said the ALARM Robotics team to be a model of what the Foundation would like to see more of, in terms of our educational outreach and bringing robotics to our communities!

Huge thank you Ms. Kathy Harvey-Ellis for visiting our shop, meeting our team and highlighting our team's work and story in the prestigious annual 4H Compass magazine.

We are delighted and truly honored!

Thank you to all (including the Convention Center staff!) who made the Small Business Conference in New Orleans last week a successful one for the 6,200 attendees. It was great to reconnect with old friends/great people across the US Army Corps of Engineers and make some new ones located all over the globe, on both sides of the contracts, all focused on getting the work done. I look forward to doing great things with those I spoke with and my apologies to the other 5,800 attendees I didn't meet! Happy Thanksgiving to all!
