Choosing the right anchorage for a fall-arrest system involves more than finding something that looks capable of supporting the load.

A proper anchorage also needs to be:
• Strong enough for the application
• Compatible with the connecting equipment
• Located where it won’t create additional hazards

Anchor location can affect free-fall distance, swing-fall exposure, edge contact, and the amount of clearance available below the worker.

Connector compatibility matters too. The wrong hook, connection point, or tie-off method can compromise an otherwise appropriate anchorage.

Before choosing fall protection equipment, ask this important question:

What are we actually trying to accomplish?

Are we preventing exposure to the fall hazard?

Restricting a worker's movement so they can't reach it?

Or preparing to arrest a fall if one occurs?

Those are three very different situations.
🔹 PREVENT — Keep workers separated from the fall hazard whenever possible.
🔹 RESTRAIN — Limit travel so the worker cannot reach the exposed edge.
🔹 ARREST — If a fall can occur, use a properly planned system designed to stop it—and have a plan for what happens next. Harnesses, SRLs, lanyards, and anchors are important.
But the equipment should follow the hazard assessment—not the other way around.

Before the next pre-task plan, ask:

Are we preventing, restraining, or arresting?

Fall protection is more than what you wear.

A harness, SRL, or anchor may be part of the solution—but effective fall protection starts long before someone is exposed to a fall hazard.

It means taking a complete approach:

🔹 PREPARE — Educate. Train. Instruct.

🔹 PREVENT — Use guardrails, restraint, and other solutions to prevent exposure whenever possible.

🔹 PROTECT — Select the right harnesses, SRLs, anchorage, and equipment for the application.

🔹 RESCUE — Have a plan for what happens after a fall or when a worker needs to be recovered.

Today, we are celebrating the retirement of our Human Resources Director, Paula Clements.

Paula has been such an important part of FrenchCreek and truly one of the best parts about working here. Her kindness, dedication, humor, and support have made a lasting impact on all of us, and she will be greatly missed.

We are incredibly grateful for everything Paula has done over the years and for the care she has shown to our employees and our company.

While we are sad to see her go, we are also excited for her as she begins this well-deserved new chapter.
