National CAD Day was this Saturday, August 2nd!

This day is set aside to celebrate computer-aided design, which is used extensively in the architecture, engineering, and construction industry (which includes Survey!) CAD Technicians help increase convenience and productivity for the industry, and we’re thankful to have several dedicated CAD designers here at MEGA!

Darcy Hollon is a CST I and particularly likes to do Property Line Adjustments. Her favorite part of using AutoCAD are all of the CAD command capabilities. A fun fact about Darcy- she grows thousands of Dahlias every year!

Doug Chateauvert is also a certified drone pilot and SESC inspector for our team. What Doug enjoys about using CAD is the multitude of ways to put together a survey or civil design in a rather quick but detailed design for our clients. Doug enjoys camping with his family and friends every year.

Mike Nowak is heavily involved in many of our engineering projects. His favorite part about using CAD programs is taking a conceptual idea and using the software to make it a reality. He really enjoys mentoring our new staff here at MEGA – and is responsible for teaching new CAD techs and Engineers our MEGA CAD standards. Mike loves to plan and execute annual Mystery Tour Road Trips!

Craig Dunn, CST I Dunn is a certified drone pilot as well as a Certified Survey Technician Level I. He has been working in the surveying field for 30 years and loves being in the office processing data.

Kim Jensen has been with MEGA for one month! He came on board when MEGA purchased Peak Land Consultants, Inc. in Avon, CO at the beginning of July. Kim has been doing CAD design for over 12 years but was a field surveyor for 30+ years before that! He loves how working in CAD keeps him sharp - figuring out how to draw each job to be clear and concise to the client. Fun fact: Kim was a bass player and harmony in a rock band!

Monument Engineering Group Associates, Inc. has entered into an exciting new agreement with a small surveying company in Colorado!

We have purchased the assets from Peak Land Consultants, Inc. Land Consultants, which is a well-established, highly-respected surveying firm in Vail, CO.

MEGA has hired their former employees, and Peak's founder, Mr. Brent Biggs, will stay on in a consulting capacity for the next year or more!

Please pass this on to anyone who may be looking for civil site development and/or land surveying services.

Matthew Janowski, our newest CST III and Drone Pilot, shares his thoughts on being a Surveyor:

"This earth we are blessed with is abundant and beautiful, and Surveyors dive in amidst the unknown to discover and communicate its potential. We provide the tools for landowners to make the most of what they have while it’s their turn, and take the first practical step bringing these dreams into reality.

Whether it’s building a home for families, bringing clean drinking water to residents, or protecting the many wild places our country is blessed to have, Surveyors are a critical part of the team that makes it happen.

This is why I am a Land Surveyor in Training, to help cultivate the world into a better place, and have a boatload of adventure along the way!"

We are still celebrating National Surveyor's Week!

Charles Mason and Jeremiah Dixon were surveyors who established the Mason-Dixon Line, a boundary line between Maryland and Pennsylvania (and also Delaware and West Virginia) in the 1760s, initially to resolve a land dispute, but later becoming a symbolic divide between the North and South. In 1784, surveyors David Rittenhouse and Andrew Ellicott and their crew completed the survey of the Mason–Dixon line to the southwest corner of Pennsylvania, five degrees from the Delaware River.

We asked our team members why they enjoy land surveying and here is what they said:

"I enjoy expanding my knowledge, there is never a moment when I think I know it all. I also enjoy the people I work with."

"Having been surveying since the mid 80s, I’ve enjoyed living and working from the field to finish days of doing the field work, the calculations, and hand drafting a finished product, through all of the modern tools available today. Some of these modern tools have now passed me by, but it’s a joy to continue to see all of the new advancements."

We are still celebrating National Surveyor's Week!

This is the 41st year of celebrating surveyors since President Ronald Reagan created the first National Surveyors Week in 1984. Did you know that former presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Abraham Lincoln were all Land Surveyors in their time?

We asked our team members why they enjoy land surveying and here is what they said:

"I like solving problems for people. That seems to pretty much sum up what we do!"

"I love the history! 'Following in the footsteps' of surveyors who did their work sometimes 100+ years ago to find traces of their efforts and sometimes their monuments. Then, taking all the evidence and putting together the puzzle."

This week is National Surveyor's Week!
Land Surveys are a necessary component for so many things that happen behind the scenes in our world. The information that surveyors collect by doing historical research, as well as work in the field, helps determine things like construction location for roads & buildings, settle property line disputes, and can lead to the creation of maps. Surveyors must wear many hats: historian, mathematician, tech wiz, and nature enthusiast. They must speak the language of neighbors, construction foremen, municipal lawmakers, and record archivists!

We have a fantastic team of Professional Surveyors, Certified Survey Technicians, and Survey CAD Staff here at MEGA. This week we will continue to post about the profession in order to raise awareness and celebrate!

Today is for National Engineering Week!

We have 3 amazing Women Engineers here at MEGA.
Our newest team member, Lindsey Denison, works out in beautiful Colorado. Here is what she says about why she decided to become an Engineer:

"When I was a kid, my dad was a water commissioner for the state of Colorado. He worked closely with the Army Core of Engineers, so I got exposure to a lot of interesting, large scale water projects. The community I grew up in is very rural and relies a lot on the agriculture industry and I saw the direct benefit that these projects provided.
That experience gave me an appreciation and admiration for engineers. I liked the tangibility and practicality of the work and was motivated by situations where I got to solve real-world problems.
A lot of the work we do as civil engineers impacts many factors in the world around us and the people in it. Having the opportunity to improve and design infrastructure, sites, and systems is incredibly rewarding and yet challenging enough to stay interesting."

We are so glad you're on the team, Lindsey!

Happy Engineers Week!

A few words from Kevin McDevitt, one of our PE's here at MEGA:
The theme this year for Engineer's Week is "Design Your Future". Being a Professional Engineer has been and continues to be a very fulfilling profession. I have been an Engineer for 33 years (28 years as a P.E.) assisting clients with a wide variety of projects, including Transportation Safety, Utilities, and Site Development including Commercial, Industrial, and Residential.

In all of these projects, I have had the opportunity to be involved with enhancing the life, safety, and welfare of countless people: Providing homes for families, places for businesses to thrive, enhancing our world through mitigating the impacts of development on our natural environment and even saving potential lives through safer infrastructure. Essentially "Designing the Future" for our clients. It is an honor to use my skills in these regards.

I also enjoy working with our diverse group of outstanding younger engineers here at MEGA. In them, I see a promising future. We have a great group here at MEGA ready to help solve your Engineering and Site Development issues.
