Italian Design and Racing

Italian Design and Racing Serving the Ferrari community since 87 making dreams reality and striving to make the best product p We custom modify Ferraris. We now use 550 engines as power.

Our specialty builds are; re-bodied 308's with a 288 GTO style bodywork. We have also done 330 P4s style cars using 330 donors as base. Our re-bodied 308's can be as simple as just a re-body or as extensive as twin turbos or 360 or 430 power. Also our 330 P4s can be built in both composite or aluminum bodies. Any of our projects can be built with any power plant options, can be built as race or street cars.

Originally this car had a dry sump oil tank fill port as part of the body work so we of course wanted to reuse that during the restoration. A dry sump oil system stores engine oil in a separate external reservoir rather than in a pan at the bottom of the engine. Specialized scavenge pumps continuously pull excess oil from the engine, keeping the oil pan "dry" to prevent power-robbing fluid drag and ensure consistent lubrication during aggressive driving. The actual gas fill is in the rear of the car. We'll show you guys later how we've plumbed that in.

The 288 GTO, 328, Testarossa, F40, Mondial, 348, 456, and 550 all suffer from antiquated circuit boards built into their fuse panels. The good news is there are a few companies that have made new boards to rebuild them. Common causes of a failed panel is in the high current circuits like the fan's head lights and fuel pumps.. They can cause other issues on the terminals connecting the fuse panel to the main chassis harness so it's a good idea to inspect them and replace them at the first sight of burns, wear or sporadic electrical issues.

As it's getting hot here in Arizona I am greatful for modern AC not just fresh air vents. If we can get this car sealed and insulated enough it'll be a pretty comfortable car to cruise in!

Some of you have seen this car in our shop and but most don't know the whole story on this car! We have been restoring this unique piece of history for quite some time now using various different Ferrari parts that we have modified to work all together.

The bodywork is the first Gulwing doored body ever placed onto a 1955 750 Monza Ferrari chassis done in Switzerland in 1957 under the direction of Peter Monteverdi and then the coupe body was removed in the mid 80's until we bought it. Using a modified Ferrari 400 chassis, Ferrari 365 and Ferrari 308 suspension components, the engine 5.5L V12 and 6 speed manual out of a Ferrari 456 this car has become quite the hot rod. We have a long way to go to finish this car but come along for the ride as we get closer to finishing this historic race car.

3D printing has been a critical part of expanding our buisness and elevating our work flow. these "Benchy" boats really help dial in the print settings for different machines and materials so we've had 100's of these over the last 10 years.

We know have 2 reliable giant format printers running 600mmX1200mmX600mm and 600mmX600mmX900mm to help make large parts to limit the stack up tolerances on multi piece prints like auto body parts

Fitting seats in a custom car can be a fun process. When there is this much custom parts in a car you can really dial in and fit all of the components specific to the driver and have the car fit like a taylored suit.

Having the the seating position comfortable, the steering wheel in a good postion to see the gauges easily and have good range of motion to make quick adjustments cornering is so important to get right at this stage of a build!
