If you have never heard the Christian origin of the Easter Story, it long precedes the origin of the “Easter Bunny.”
As early as the 2nd Century, “Easter” has been recognized as the Christian’s celebration that Christ defeated death. Christ was crucified as payment for the sins of man (commonly referred to as “substitutionary atonement”), buried in a tomb, and then three days later He rose from the dead, appearing to several recorded witnesses.
This sacrifice is what sets Christianity apart from all other world religions, as the only faith in which God humbly comes and reconciles Himself to His creation. God does not ask anyone to earn their way to Him but offers eternal life freely through a relationship that His sacrifice made possible.
This reality is merely there for us to accept or reject. Because God knows a forced relationship is not a genuine relationship, He gives us the free will to choose (or not choose), His gift of salvation.
We hope this Easter you are filled with the remembrance of what makes the Christian faith possible. If you do not have a religious basis for celebrating Easter, we hope this post would pique your interest in exploring it deeper.
Happy Easter!
