Last August, a flood took out the aging water system in Jackson, Mississippi. It left nearly the entire city without water for nearly a week. A few months later, a polar vortex weather event broke so many pipes that residents lost access to water again for nearly two weeks.

Jackson’s water connects to 70,000 homes and businesses and reaches more than 170,000 people.It was one of the worst water crises in American history, making the city the only state capital where you couldn’t drink the water.

As the result of a 2020 Environmental Protection Agency inspection, U.S. District Judge Henry Wingate allotted over $800 million through various federal funding streams to make fixes to the water systems.

CCM is proud to be part of the many companies that have been hired to help transform Jackson’s water treatment program into one that consistently delivers clean drinking water to the entire city. It’s a big responsibility, but after enduring two years of near-constant boil notices, it’s something its citizens truly deserve.

Despite its small size of under three square miles, Wake Island boasts the longest strategic runway in the Pacific Islands. For almost a century, this location has been a significant military support base for the US and a convenient refueling and maintenance depot for commercial aircraft.

In 2019, the Pacific Regional Support Center (PRSC) of the Air Force initiated $155 million worth of sustainment, restoration, and modernization projects on Wake Island. These projects are challenging due to the limited infrastructure and amenities, as only about one hundred people live and work on the island seven days a week.

To ensure successful contracting projects, there must be long-term planning and an understanding of the remote nature of this coral atoll. Everything must be imported to the island, and the fastest mode of delivery is a four-week barge shipment from the continental US that transports heavy construction equipment, parts, and supplies.

CCM is delighted to announce that our work at Wake Island has been awarded as the American Society of Professional Estimators' Project of the Year. It has been an amazing opportunity for us to work on this estimation project, represent our country, and contribute to our national security.

2023 was a – pardon the pun – constructive year for .

We estimated a total of 130 projects with an approximate construction budget of over one billion dollars.

One of those projects gave us the opportunity to work on Wake Island, which won ASPE project of the year for 2023.
