When we won the 4600 class at KOH 2020, I thought my phone would start ringing with people that wanted to put portals in their stock class builds. There was no doubt that our portal axles gave us a HUGE advantage in the rock trails… but no one called. I even reached out to a few of the top 4600 teams and offered them sponsorship. They declined. I was told you just couldn’t package them effectively in a race build.

Last year at KOH, I walked through the tech and contingency for the 4600 class to take a look at all of the cars. Of all of the cars, a 30 year old Grand Cherokee that caught my attention. I could see how well thought out the build was. Even though it wasn’t a big budget build, the fab work and engineering was impressive. The owner/builder of the Grand Cherokee was Jesse Bennett. When I asked him how he’d feel about putting portals in his car, he was immediately skeptical that he could package them without major sacrifices to performance. I told him to think about it and stay in touch. After his third consecutive top 5 finish at that KOH, we talked more and he felt like he could make JHF portals work in his car.

Fast forward to the 2026 EMC race, Jesse reached his goal of getting on the podium with a 3rd place finish. The drivers that finished ahead of him? Brad Lovell and Loren Healy; two of the best to ever race at the Hammers, professional racers, driving high end, factory backed Ford Broncos. After the race, Jesse said the portal axles were a huge advantage in the rock trails, and the car was still fast enough to hang with the IFS Broncos in the desert.

Thank you, for proving what we already knew; our axles are a significant advantage at this race. We’re hoping to see more racers running them next year! 👊🏼 (also a teammate)
