What a harrowing few days! For those who follow our live eagle cam, you know we have two baby eagles in the nest behind our building. The one photo shows them on Friday after practicing flapping their wings.
When we returned to work this week, we noticed the nest was gone and only one baby eagle was perched on a branch. We contacted Audubon EagleWatch, and they sent a volunteer to help search for the missing eaglet. For two days she searched with no luck—then this morning, look who popped up walking along our fence line…the missing baby eagle!
We immediately called the volunteer, who came right back and, with help from our fantastic neighbors at California Closets, successfully captured the eaglet. The baby is estimated to be about nine weeks old—not old enough to fly yet. He will be taken to a rehabilitation facility Audubon Center for Birds of Prey and released with a partner once he is fully grown. Fortunately, he did not appear to have any injuries, so he should be released in a few weeks.
For now, when you watch the live cam, you’ll only see one baby eagle with the parents. We were fortunate to have a good friend of Velocity take some professional photos before the nest fell—those will be posted in another thread.

The baby eaglets are growing and testing their boundaries. Check them out resting on the edge of their nest. Pretty soon they will be soaring high in the sky above!

Every year, these majestic birds return to the same nesting site to raise their young.
