There are three months left to put equipment to work in 2026.

Section 179 lets a business deduct the cost of qualifying equipment in the year it's placed in service, rather than depreciating it over several years. For a contractor or a rental fleet adding a machine this fall, that timing matters.

What the deadline actually means:

- The equipment has to be purchased AND placed in service by December 31
- Delivery lead times count against you — a machine ordered in December may not qualify
- Deduction limits and phase-out thresholds are set annually

We're not tax advisors, and the details depend on your situation — talk to your accountant. What we can do is tell you what's available, what the lead time looks like, and whether a machine can realistically be on your site before year-end.
