Spring is coming fast. Before you hook up and head to the first job of the season, take 30 minutes to run through a pre-season trailer inspection.

Here is what to check:

1. Tires — Check air pressure and inspect for cracks, dry rot, or uneven wear. Replace anything questionable before it leaves you on the side of the road.
2. Brakes — Test electric brakes with a controller. Check brake pads and wiring connections.
3. Lights — Test all running lights, turn signals, and brake lights. Replace any burned-out LEDs and check wiring harness connections.
4. Coupler & Safety Chains — Inspect the coupler for wear or damage. Make sure safety chains are the correct rating and not stretched or cracked.
5. Jack — Operate the tongue jack through its full range. Lubricate moving parts. Check the foot pad for wear.
6. Grease Bearings — Repack wheel bearings or, if your trailer has oil-bath axles, check the oil level through the sight glass on the Fortress™ caps.
7. Deck & Floor — Walk the entire deck. Check for loose or rotting boards on wood-floor models. Inspect steel floors for significant dents or corrosion.
8. Ramps & Gates — Operate all ramps and gates through their full range. Check spring assist, hinges, and latch mechanisms.
9. Tie-Downs & D-Rings — Inspect all tie-down points for cracks or bending.
10. Powder Coat & Frame — Look for chips, scratches, or rust spots. Touch up now to prevent bigger problems later.

Do this now, and your trailer is ready to work the moment the season starts.
