American Highway’s Industrial Specialists Dan Marks and Eric Gerencir recently joined CEO Ron Meskis and other industry leaders at the Spring 2026 American Concrete Institute (ACI) Concrete Convention in Chicago. From March 30 to April 1, our team engaged in ACI Committee meetings 360, 302, and 330 to improve the design and of slabs on grade and parking lots. We are working hard to advance industry standards by:
• Advocating for language inclusion of the necessity for "strategic reinforcement" in slabs and pavements to ensure proper load transfer and joint stability using steel plates or round dowels.
• Updating guidance documents to help engineers, design-builders and concrete contractors seamlessly adopt state-of-the-art tools like our Dowel Optimizer (also known as Enhanced Integrated Dowel Model—EIDM. See Concrete Contractor’s article, linked below, for more info on the EIDM).

We are proud to have our team stay at the forefront of these industry developments.

Discover the Enhanced Integrated Dowel Model (EIDM) for optimizing concrete slab dowel design, reducing costs, and improving joint performance across various load conditions.

Struck-by incidents remain a top cause of injury in the industry. April 20 to 24 is National Work Zone Awareness Week. This is a critical time to remember to slow down when driving through highway work zones. As a manufacturer of products used to build better roads, American Highway supports the hardworking crews who rely on our materials. We design our solutions with a strict commitment to quality, innovation and safety.
We must all work together to protect the lives of workers and drivers alike.

Please slow down and stay alert in every work zone you encounter. Safe actions save lives!

What is Load Transfer?
is key to maintaining the structural stability of pavement and commercial flatwork. It is the process of distributing weight across joints or cracks. When vehicles pass over these surfaces, the load applied to one slab is shared with adjacent slabs, reducing stress and preventing damage. Effective load transfer, achieved with devices like dowel bars or tapered plate dowels, helps minimize:
• Faulting
• Joint spalling
• Random cracking
• Pumping
• Corner breaks

At American Highway, our products are engineered to optimize load transfer and enhance durability, delivering long-lasting performance for high-traffic . Learn more about our products:
