I’m tired of grabbing a set of drill bits just to find half of them broken, dull or missing. 😅

At this point, I’m ready to find a GOOD set that’ll actually hold up around the shop.

What drill bits are you running, and is there a set with a warranty actually worth having?

This truck came in with a list, and we’re getting it taken care of. 🔧

From suspension and exhaust work to AC, alignment and more, the goal is to get it back on the road and ready to make it through harvest without having to worry about it.

We do pretty much all of it.

Torquing down the mains and getting this engine one step closer to going back together. 🔧

We found the culprit. Cylinder 6 had a broken compression ring, and the liners had dropped.

After getting everything apart and seeing what we were working with, we got the liners cut, installed new stainless liner shims, and got everything sitting where we want it.

New pistons and liners are in, and this engine is officially going back together. 🔧

Main bearings aren’t exactly anyone’s favorite part of an overhaul.

Doing them on the ground gets old fast, so anytime we can get the engine up and make the job a little easier, we’re going to do it.

Take the old ones out, get the new ones cleaned up and installed, and keep this overhaul moving. 🔧

This one is just about ready to fire up.

We like to pressure test the cooling system before the oil pan goes back on. It’s a lot easier to catch an issue now than find coolant in the oil pan after everything is buttoned back up.

A couple final checks, get everything back together, and she’s ready to run.

Time to start putting this one back together.

We’ve got a refurbished block ready to go along with a crank, in-frame kit, new cylinder head, oil pump, water pump, connecting rods, piston liners, and plenty more.

We’ll clean and inspect everything we’re reusing, get it all back together, and get this truck back to hauling corn and beans.

This is going to be a nice build.

Work smarter when you’re pulling enough of these.

We built this lifting bracket to keep the head level and give us more control while lifting it with the overhead crane.

The other big thing? Keeping that heavy steel head away from the aluminum front structure. Get it in a bind and you could turn a good front structure into a leaking or cracked one.

Next up: inspecting the head and block and measuring liner protrusion.

An ABS light doesn’t always mean a bad sensor.

On this one, we had two wheel speed sensors not reading. Once we got underneath it, we found seeping wheel seals packing the tone rings full of debris.

You can clean it up and get the sensor reading again, but that doesn’t fix what caused it. We’re pulling both sides apart, replacing the wheel seals, and getting the ABS system working the way it should.
