This year Harmsen was able to assist in educating through STEM Like Me!, a program that helps to educate children on the potential professions there are in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Amy Johnson is a member of our Wetland team here at Harmsen. She and many other representatives across different companies were able to assist in teaching over 500 students across five different schools about their field of work.

A survey performed by these students showed that 76.8% of the students increased their knowledge of STEM careers and 48.05% of them increased their desire to pursue a STEM career! Megan Benzing, M.Ed. at Snohomish STEM said that “these statistics aren’t just numbers, they reflect the passion and dedication of our amazing partners.”

On Tuesday, Snohomish Fire District 4 used an old Snohomish Home as fire training. Over the course of a day, they started and extinguished several fires. They ended the day by burning the old home to the ground. They will be clearing this piece of land to build their new fire station coming soon!

Harmsen has been working with Snohomish Fire District 4 over the course of this project. We are thrilled that we have the pleasure of working along side them through this process!

Here at Harmsen, we are thrilled that we have the opportunity to work with Snohomish Fire District # 4 on their project in Snohomish! They will be using some old houses and buildings to do live fire training starting on April 9th. Once the area has been cleared, they will be constructing a brand new fire station.

Harmsen’s Wetland Specialist Amy shares her experience in beginning her career in environmental science to help inspire middle school and high school students to begin considering their future and pursuing it now.

Amy has been involved in STEM Like Me! which is a program that educates students on careers by bringing professionals into classrooms to show students what is available to them.
