Here’s a fun one!

200/200HP, 4/6 pole, 2.3kV motor with 72 slots. It’s not a PAM winding and has 2 sets of leads (one for each speed). Coils only have 1 pitch and 2 coils per slot like a standard form coil would. Connection for each winding is 1Y.

A rush 2300V, 1179RPM, 450HP, high starting torque fan motor rewind. This sleeve bearing machine needed a rush rewind. In 3 weeks, we had it back to the customer. This could have been done a week quicker, but we require sample coils and fully fit and test them prior to a rewind.

What a great morning today EEMSCO, INC. We had a customer come in and witness test a 1968 40HP GE DC motor. The speed range on this motor is 650 to 1750. It ran like a top. Work included, new shaft, rewind armature, rewire field frame and fabricate custom bronze sleeve bearings. The application is so sensitive to vibration that standard rolling element bearings are not an option.

It’s ready for service and will be able to operate a long time!

The burnout oven is going around the clock right now at EEMSCO, INC.

We have multiple rush rewinds in the shop, along with many other standard lead time rewinds.

Here are 3, 2300V rewinds. A 350HP, which we’ll upgrade to 400HP, a 500HP and a 450HP rush rewind.

Also, a picture of a 125HP water cooled rush rewind.

All of these will be processed in our Class H epoxy resin. Our VPI and overdip processing has been curated to provide a winding that lasts in harsh environments.

A customer of EEMSCO, INC. was picking up ball spin frequency during a vibration analysis. They removed this critical 800HP, 2.3kV compressor motor before it got worse and reconditioned the motor on a rush basis. Dissecting the bearings we confirmed ball spin by looking at the rolling elements and races.

By proactively pulling this motor, they were able to save significantly on rental fees, unplanned downtime and lower repair costs as only superficial mechanical work was required to return this motor back into service, outside of our standard reconditioning.

There are many advantages to planned outage work, especially from a cost savings perspective. This 300kW motor was pulled from service and reinstalled and aligned 4 days later after a complete evaluation and recondition at our facility. The EEMSCO, INC. team provided a turn key solution on this project. Many parts for the recondition were preordered to save on costs and ensured product availability months in advance.

There was a significant cost savings for not having to expedite parts, and ensuring that they were in stock waiting at our facility. This has become a common practice with this particular customer. Short deadlines around holidays during their shutdown. They all go smoothly due to all the upfront work completed months in advance.

Many planners do not receive the recognition they deserve for proper planning. When things run smoothly, it’s just another day in the office. We recognize and appreciate this effort. For all the planners out there, thank you for your efforts to streamline work scopes and all the upfront planning you do day in and day out.

Here’s a few pictures before the motor was completely reassembled and delivered to the customer for alignment & installation. Final electrical tests and QA were to be performed before installing other covers and shrouds.

The insulation system on certain motor components can be complex. The service center needs to understand what materials are best when. Especially, if we are working with customers to make something better or solve a problem. Here’s a picture of a 700HP DC motor’s interpoles that we reinsulated and processed in house. Insulating materials were carefully picked to ensure proper dielectric strength and heat transfer. To remove any potential air voids which can trap heat, the interpoles were VPI’ed in our epoxy resin from STAR Technology, Inc. and potted with a potting compound which has better heat transfer properties than normal. The end result: They look great, have minimal leakage current, have the ability to transfer heat away from the coil and have a protective coating that will allow them to be in service for many years in harsh environments. Well done team!
