1. Determine Your Product
H**p has 25,000 uses, and an array of end products that growers can gain for a lucrative price per acre. For h**p fiber, h**p seed, h**p flower, h**p resin, and h**p oil after harvest, the value added products are endless. Your desired product will determine what h**p genetic you will want: grain seed, fiber seed, seed production, or high CBD for therapeutic oils. In 2019, one acre of h**p CBD could sell for 10x the value of it's same production of corn.
2. Plant in Organic Soil
For therapeutic and nutrition purposes, finding soil that has been organic for 4 years is the first step, and starting your seeds in organic mixes for later transplant to 50 gallon pots or directly to the field. If you are looking to maximize quality on a few acres, offset row spacing with feminized seeds and daily maintenance, which can reward a great product. For more acres, planting like wheat is ideal, as the h**p will grow faster than the weeds and with good irrigation will be sturdy for tractor harvest in 4 to 5 months.
3. Grow Naturally
Sunlight, ph balanced water and good soil is all h**p needs. It is a sturdy plant, and likes a healthy mix of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium during the grow cycle. This can be added organically to the soil and in watering cycles. With proper care these plants will do outstanding in almost every climate; the more sun, the better.
4. Harvest Process
In 4 to 5 months they will be ready to harvest, when the light cycle dips below 12 hours a day and the females start flowering. For fiber crops, sexing isn't necessary. For CBD, only the female flowers produce oil and resin. With regular seed, this requires a more intensive process of selecting, where 40% of plants may be removed for fiber processing. With feminized seed, close to 100% will flower for harvesting, drying, trimming, and potentially refined for oils. Your product can be ready in 2-4 weeks after harvest.
5. Market
In 2019, h**p biomass prices were around $50 a pound for trimmed flower. With CO2 refination, around a few thousand per liter of CBD oil. Proper labelling as h**p is important with accompanying COA lab test to confirm quality. There are sites to advertise and offer your h**p products online, you can contact CO2 oil processors to purchase trimmed flower, and you can start a product line to sell retail, at farmer's markets, and to distributors. Thinking about the end product, growing h**p can be a great crop to try, and a lucrative venture.
