When disaster strikes, access to reliable veterinary care can quickly become a critical need. Western Shelter is proud to support the California Veterinary Emergency Team (CVET) as they provide veterinary medical care and support for domestic animals and livestock during emergencies and disasters.
Scott Buhl, Associate Director of Logistics at CVET, shared how Western Shelter systems help their team establish field-ready veterinary care when and where it’s needed:
Associate director of logistics, Scott Buhl, stated, "Disasters like to strike during inconvenient times and at inconvenient locations. The luxury of having a brick-and-mortar animal care facility may not be feasible, and that is when rapid deployment structures such as Western Shelters can be a key resource to have available for animal operations. Here at CVET, we utilize the Gatekeeper 20 and 1935 shelters, as well as our newest addition, the CB-16 shelter. All of these shelters can be deployed relatively quickly utilizing only a handful of responders, are sturdy and reliable even during weather events, and allow for quick connection to portable HVAC units, creating quick, temperature-controlled animal care space. In addition, CVET utilizes the trailer boot connection to allow us to connect these shelters to the rear of our mobile veterinary clinic trailers, creating a field veterinary hospital in minutes that can accommodate even greater patient numbers. During our recent 2026 CVET Full Deployment Exercise in Napa, we exercised this capacity."
