The luxury of having city water is that there aren't high levels of iron and bacteria like those found in well water. Another bonus of having city water instead of well water is the elimination of dealing with troublesome pumps. Quarterly drinking water quality reports are required by the EPA to ensure that all standards of quality are met.
In the summer of 2001, Terry Henley met with Coosa County officials and began working to install the city water system. The water system’s starting point is located at Highway 2, which is by Real Island on the south part of the lake, and extends all the way to Johnson Creek Road, which is past the Narrows by the lake-way. The water system consists of approximately 50 miles of pipeline, 115 fire hydrants and a water storage tank located on Highway 20 that contains 250,000 gallons of water. This water system is fortunate enough to have tremendous pressure and was designed and built for the future of the west side of Lake Martin. We are currently using approximately 12% of our full capacity and have extended volume for future developments, which is in the forecast of the west side of Lake Martin. With the quality of life this water system brought to the residents, it also brought a significant fire rate reduction in our protection class code for the west side of Lake Martin. It reduces the fire protection in some places to a “5” and in other places to a “6.” Parker Creek Water Company, LLC was instrumental in having the fire protection classes evaluated by the Insurance Services Office (ISO) to accomplish the rate reduction. We assisted the Volunteer Fire Department of Ray Community and Equality Fire Department in purchasing fire hoses and equipment so we could obtain these lower ratings. Parker Creek Water Company, LLC services not only Coosa County but also extends into Elmore County to a portion of Lake Martin, which is on the east side of Real Island, at the end of Tee Road.
