“I just knew that I loved working with metal.”

At 18, Emme Hughes started a fabrication shop with no formal plan. At 23, she’s running a 10,000-square-foot operation.

On The Fabricator Podcast, she talks about figuring it out in real time, learning by doing, building through relationships, and the influence of her grandfather.

We’re proud to have hosted Oklahoma State University students here at EH Metal Works!

Saransh Yadav, MS Mechatronics and Robotics and Lead Energy Assessment Student, visited our shop to gather important data for his Master’s thesis.

Also joining was Brian Samson-Uche, who will continue building on this research for his own thesis, with graduation expected in December 2026.

It’s always great to support the next generation of innovators and be part of hands-on, real-world learning.

Life is short — and I’m finally starting to understand what my papa was trying to teach me when I was 18 and starting a company, worrying about the future.

He always told me:
Don’t sweat the small stuff.
Don’t dwell on what you can’t change.
Put your head down and get to work.

I can still picture him — cigarette in his hand, knees crossed — telling me all of this like it was just common sense.

Back then I thought it was just old-school talk.
Now I realize it was wisdom.

He’d say the first step to anything is simple — show up.
Because nothing happens if you don’t show up. No opportunities, no growth, no progress… just ideas that never leave your head.

It’s crazy how someone can educate you long before you understand the lesson.
My papa was the hardest working man I’ve ever known, and even though he’s not standing in the shop with me anymore, his voice is in my head every single day pushing me forward.

Some days in business are heavy. Some days you question everything.
But then I hear him: quit worrying and get to work.
Also him saying “ you’ll figure it out”.

So that’s what I do — I show up, and I will every day until I physically can’t anymore.

Make this week count. Happy Monday.

I didn’t accidentally end up in manufacturing.

I welded my first bead at 6 years old and was racing cars by 12. I was raised in a shop beside my Papa, learning early that if something breaks, you fix it — and if you need something, you build it.

I’m Emme Hughes, owner of EH Metal Works in Enid, Oklahoma, and I’m proud to call EH Metal Works a manufacturer.

Four years ago I opened the doors with more determination than equipment. What started as small jobs has grown into a full metal fabrication and laser cutting shop serving businesses, contractors, and our community.

Papa always taught me business is about people and relationships. I want to help others in this space, share what I’ve learned, and build real friendships along the way. There is room for all of us to grow when we support each other.

The shop exists because of him. When things get hard, he’s still the voice in my head pushing me forward.

He’s my why.

Every project that leaves our shop carries a piece of what he taught me.

Thank you to everyone who has trusted and supported this journey — we’re just getting started.
