One of the first decisions we make on a new job is whether it runs on the laser or the punch press.

Lasers are usually the best fit for complex profiles, thicker material, and quick changeovers.

Punching makes more sense for simpler parts, higher-volume production, or jobs with many holes and forms. It also lets us add features like louvers, extrusions, and other formed details in one pass, saving time and reducing secondary operations.

The process can also depend on how the material behaves. Highly reflective metals like copper, brass, or titanium can reflect a CO₂ laser beam back toward the machine, and some materials (like galvanized steel) create fumes that are best avoided on the laser. In those cases, the punch press is often the safer and more practical option.

Having both options in-house gives us the flexibility to run each job the way it makes the most sense!

To get the most out of a single sheet of metal, our engineers focus on finding the most efficient and cost-effective layout possible. This results in a nest — it’s how we arrange parts to maximize material use while keeping waste to a minimum.

We think we do a pretty good job at it… just look at how satisfying the end result is.
