Not every steel roof has the same profile—and the right SAMM mat depends on the build of the roof.
Pole Barn Style (PBS) mats are configured for Imperial Rib steel roofing with exposed fasteners and 9-inch spacing between the main ribs. PB-12 mats are designed for pole-barn steel with 12-inch rib spacing, while STSM mats fit standing- or hidden-seam steel roofing.
Need one mat that works across multiple profiles? The PRO uses super-hold neodymium magnets and is recommended for compatible pole-barn, standing-seam, corrugated, and architectural steel roofing.
Always confirm the roof is compatible ferritic steel. SteelGrip SAMM® mats will not work on aluminum or copper roofing.
Select the correct mat and verify placement before stepping onto it.
SteelGrip SAMM® is a traction-assist tool—not fall protection. Required fall-protection equipment and standard safety practices still apply.

A simple habit can help protect your SAMM mats and keep your job moving.
Leaving SAMM mats on a steel roof overnight—or in temperatures above 90°F—can cause them to stick and become difficult to remove.
Remember to:
✅ Remove mats after each use
✅ Store mats properly when not in use
✅ Inspect placement before stepping onto the mat
Taking a few extra minutes at the end of the job can prevent hours of removal time later.

Proper placement makes all the difference.
Before stepping onto your SAMM mat, make sure it's positioned correctly:
✔️ White dots (magnetic strips) belong on the center flat surface of the steel.
✔️ Red lines (fabric) should ride over the high ribs.
Incorrect placement can reduce traction and prevent the mat from performing as designed. Remember, different steel roof profiles require different SAMM mat styles, so always use the right mat for the job. For Standing Seam (STSM) mats, fabric portion, white dot is placed over high rib. Side magnets are placed on flat steel surface.
