Gen 2 Cheetahs are in stock!

The change with Gen 2 is that no longer will these be available only as a fixed 1/2-28 through-threaded mount with a skinny tail that not everyone loved. The guts are the same, but the gen 2 has our M3 system (miniature modular mount) to allow different thread patterns in through-threaded and muzzle registering flavors, as well as other adapters down the line.

Ocelot will also see the M3 option in the future, cleaning up mounting for people who have rimfire hosts with other than 1/2-28 threads.

Demand has been high, and as you all know, we've not been able to keep everything in stock at all times, but have been working hard to remedy that, adding hundreds of adapters back to stock over the last month!

We haven't got to every flavor of each one done yet, but have added a lot of adapters back in Griffin taper, Readen/Cherry Bomb, Gyrex, TBAC and Rugged, as well as restocking boosters!

A warning about Precision One Ammunition: based on my recent experience, this stuff is DANGEROUS!

I hate to have to do this, but the company refuses to take accountability even after I warned that if they didn’t I would take further action.

TLDR: They distributed massively overpressure ammunition we received which we returned to them. They told us it’s fine, that it’s our fault or the gun’s fault there was a problem, refuse to take care of the damage their product caused and refuse to recall or issue warnings about the dangerous product brought to their attention.

Detailed: October 18th of this year we ordered 3 different types of .50 Beowulf ammunition from a reputable retailer. November 5th, we began testing the prototype Caoga non-BMG .50 suppressor with the Bear Creek Arsenal host weapon, a 10.5” AR. First rounds fired were Alexander Arms brand, which we used to dial in the adjustment on the gas block. Then we tried the Precision One 350 gr. XTP loads. First two rounds cycled, 3rd locked the gun up tight. After mortaring the stuck case out, I discovered it was massively overpressure, expanding the case head more than .008”. One of the other cases was also expanded .004” at the head with definitive brass flow into the ejector hole, and the 3rd had primer flattening without significant case head expansion. I do not know what order the other 2 were fired in.

After attempts to contact on November 5th and 6th, it took having the retailer contact on my behalf to actually get a response from Precision One. The ammunition was returned to Precision One with a detailed and courteous but firm email message stating that I expected them to cover the cost of the ammo as well as a bolt and barrel for the rifle it compromised. Radio silence for over 2 weeks, so I reached out and got a BS placatory response. Another week passed without a word, so we sent an invoice for the cost of the ammo and gun parts to get their attention. That elicited a response from the CEO, Michael Scott, who was polite but dismissive, claiming it’s not their problem because the stuff was “produced under prior ownership”. I pointed out that the retailer indicated the ammunition shipped from Precision One well after the alleged ownership change, and that even if there had been changes to corporate structure, this fact does indeed make it his problem. He insisted that I don’t understand their business structure but would now expedite examination of the ammo. No surprise, he says a couple days later “all measurable criteria are within specified parameters” and “we do know is that the firearm you used with the ammunition did not function as intended, for whatever reason. In this case what we can do is a refund of the ammunition only, as it doesn’t make sense to replace the rounds since we have established the firearm doesn’t accept the ammo you purchased even though it is within specifications.” At this point, I never expected a truthful answer, but tried to give them a chance to show integrity anyway. The probability that the 3 rounds I fired were overpressure while the other 37 were fine is so vanishingly minuscule as to be practically impossible.

I rejected the refund for ammunition only. I’m not really concerned with the cost of the ammo, bolt & barrel. It’s peanuts in the grand scheme, and I’m just grateful that Bear Creek’s parts held under pressure that my napkin math says was in excess of 100,000 PSI, more than triple the .50 Beowulf operating pressure. What I really wanted these clowns to do was assure me that they would look into all the ammo from that batch at the very least. I told Michael Scott point blank that I would happily write off the dollar amount if it meant saving someone else having their face or fingers blown off. Just because I was lucky doesn’t mean the next guy will be, and this ain’t the only report online of Precision One slinging dangerously overpressure ammo. I do aim to make sure it’s a lot easier for others to find this info.

ETA: Rude, inappropriate or selfish comments won't be tolerated in this post. I have already banned and blacklisted one person for it. If you have something inconsiderate or just generally not nice to say about Taylor or the situation, this isn't the place. Public posts aren't an appropriate venue for airing grievances with someone who just survived a brutal accident which left them badly broken.

Silencer Summit results are live!

We're pretty happy with where things landed. Outside of Susurrus, quietest cans on earth has never been our goal. Rather, we want to offer very competitive performance in smaller packages, and at a fairly economical price point.

While it would have been awesome to test more things on more hosts, the TBAC crew absolutely smashed it getting through as many as they did; over 360 combos in 5 days!

Based on my understanding of the metrics, while dBA has been an industry standard, dBA*ms and LEQ may be a better representation of how human ears perceive it short of actually hearing them all.

There was a host issue that made .22 LR shooter's ear results somewhat useless (there is a note at the bottom of the results about that). As well, some may wonder why our full size Ocelot was barely quieter than the Micro; that's because the only one we had to bring after this spring & summer's rush was a really old one with thicker, less-refined manually machined aluminum baffles. We'll get a current production one on the Pulse as soon as we build some more and find time to get back to Cheyenne.

Also, while this metering is useful information, remember that it takes at least 3 dB for human ears to perceive a difference at these levels, so don't change your mind about a can you like or were planning to buy just because another metered a couple dB lower. Chasing decibels should really be an "all else being equal" proposition unless you're talking at least 5 dB difference.

Well, after an awesome 3 days in Cheyenne at Silencer Summit, I'm getting back after making parts here. I apologize to anyone who thought we were ignoring them, I just wasn't in a very good position to respond to messages during that time and honestly needed a little breather from the day to day.

We can't overstate how awesome the TBAC crew is for putting this on and giving real silencer science to the industry and it's customers. Ray, Zak, Curtis, Turbo, Shane, Sam and everybody else with Thunderbeast are just salt of the earth people doing a tremendous service here on their own time and dime. Also a big shout out to Allen Arms Tactical for taking care of everyone in attendance with food & drinks, Brandon and April are great folks! Overall just a really cool event, and despite everyone technically being competitors, it's a fun, friendly atmosphere of talking shop, hobbies and everything else.

We will post links and data once TBAC has made it all public, which I believe will be early next week.

The Crowdstrike/Microsoft outage has significantly impacted both our website and our email server.

We are working hard to restore functionality on the site and recover emails, but we do not know that we'll be able to get everything back, so if you had messaged us on or after the evening of Thursday, July 18th and do not get a response by tomorrow, July 23rd, please try again with messenger here on Facebook.

As far as the site functionality, one of the things most impacted is the ability to sign up for in-stock notifications, so if that's something you want to do and are unable to on the site, please message here with your name, email and what specific item you're needing notification on, and we'll do our best to manually add that once we have the functionality restored. We do still recommend checking back here for updates and then making sure you are signed up for notification once we announce that we have it sorted out.

Time for another update!

We wrapped up all the service work last week and have thus commenced running production parts. That was interrupted this week on account of Mazak was finally able to get a technician here to level and dial in the new-to-us SQT200MSY. 3 days and five grand in service charges later, the machine is operational, but of course I do have to invest more time in tooling it, learning how to navigate Fusion 640T control, translate/write programs for that control and also learning how to use the Y axis & subspindle that I've never had before. And the machine did reveal that the spindle jumps slightly on C axis unclamp during milling operations, which kept chipping & snapping end mills on me, but luckily until I'm able to sort that out, I can use the Y axis instead to create those features. So, yeah...the machine is running! And I was able to get a handful of adapters out on it today while also cranking baffles and front caps with the 18N and 15M.

The last couple months has been a huge time investment in trying to set up for more production and better efficiency going forward, and we're not quite out of the woods yet, but things are coming together, so hopefully we'll be able to meet demands without delays in the not too distant!

Now off to unhook the small manual machine phase converter motor that decided it wanted to catch fire today...

A status update for where we are with things:

-We are on service work at this time. We knocked out a bunch of recores the last 2 weeks, and I'm in the midst of the (very large) mount conversion batch right now. Plan is to have that finished sometime next week, then get to the few remaining recores and other odds & ends in the service queue.

-Nothing will be restocked while I'm handling service work, which I estimate will take about another 2.5-3 weeks to button up.

-We're a few days behind the schedule I had set for myself on account of having to make some significant changes to the shop to get ahead of the new Bravo Sierra our state legislature rammed through, leaving very little time for FFLs to be in compliance (mere days from final vote to effective law) . There was really no way around that, as we don't play fast and loose or take our chances "riding dirty".

-Restocking of Suppressors will be first priority when service work is completed, starting with TLX & Canine, then Five By Five, then Ocelot & Ocelot Micro, followed by other centerfire rifle models. Phoenix IX is a low priority, so for those who were wanting one, I apologize, but it's going to be quite awhile.

-Mounts & Adapters I will try to run some of while building cans, but expect it to be some time for restocking on a lot of them.

-Our newest machine is operational in terms of everything seems to do what it should, doesn't appear to need any repairs, but we are still waiting on Mazak service to come properly level it and check/adjust main-to-sub spindle alignment for parts transfer, so it has not yet added to our production capacity.

-I do not provide restock date estimates for anything, the above is as close to a timeline as I'll go. To maximize efficiency, we batch like-parts as much as possible, so things are not necessarily made in the same order we ran out of them, and while demand is a major consideration, it is still often second to what we can get done with the fewest tooling & material changes before moving on.

-Service queues I do not expect to reopen until at least August, and there will be some changes to how we handle them. The model we've been using just doesn't work for the quantities we're seeing now, has left us overwhelmed.

I'm also having to set some boundaries for myself, the every waking hour work schedule is burning me out. So I'm going to limit my days to max 11 hours M-F and not more than 10 hours over the weekend. Things will still be done as quickly as possible, but I need to make some time for my kids while they're still kids.

Some may have seen on our "contact us" page that we have suspended all service work until further notice, or realized that service deposit pages have been temporarily disabled. It's because we are beyond capacity on account of many, many items being sent in with no notice or at the very last minute weeks or months after initial contact or deposit.

There will be significant delays because of this, nothing I can do about that, literally no more hours in the day I can put in. I know that's not what anyone wants to hear, but this was unanticipated. When we do reinstate services, we may have to go back to call back queues to prevent this happening again. We have a lot of capability and very high output for a 2 person operation, but I can only get things done so fast even with multiple CNCs, especially when service work is heavily custom manual machine stuff that takes me away from those.

I am not even providing estimated dates of completion at this point, nor can I say when we might reinstate services. I'm doing all I can to knock things out and get the newest machine up & running to augment production, but for any semblance of efficiency, this stuff has to be handled in a pragmatic order, which is not necessarily FIFO. With demand for both products and services up 158% now from this time last year, I'm scrambling to find the balances that meet as many needs as possible, as quickly as possible without sacrificing quality. It's difficult, though, and aside from the challenges of finding good employees and the huge time commitment in getting them trained, the state of Colorado has added even more obstacles for small businesses to hire people, so that's not even a consideration right now.

In short, we're not going anywhere and we will complete everything we have committed to with the quality you all have come to expect from us, but I simply can't get it all done as quickly as I did when the demand was so much lower in the past. Please bear with us! We appreciate you all!
