A safer shift starts before the forklift moves.
A pre-shift forklift inspection can help operators identify potential problems before they lead to downtime, costly repairs, or safety concerns.
Before each shift, operators should check key areas such as:
- Tires, wheels and forks
- Mast, chains and hydraulics
- Brakes and steering
- Lights, horn and warning devices
- Fluid levels and visible leaks
- Seat belt and operator controls
- Overall condition of the lift truck
Daily inspections aren't just about checking a box, they help create a workplace where operators are encouraged to identify and report potential issues before putting equipment into service.
If something doesn't look or operate correctly, report it and have the lift truck properly evaluated before use.
