You can also shop for needed items at our nonprofit reuse warehouse, open to the public every day from 12 to 5 pm. This beautiful kitchen backsplash started with a visit to Community Forklift!

When a homeowner was renovating their new home, they found salvaged tile at Community Forklift to complete their kitchen backsplash: 70 square feet for just $15 per box. It was their first visit to Community Forklift and while the warehouse felt a little overwhelming at first, our staff helped them find exactly what they needed.

Creating space for growth and grace.

With free salvaged materials from Community Forklift's Community Building Blocks (CBB) program, Eastern Middle School transformed a vision for student well-being into a welcoming Wellness Room where students can pause, recharge, and find support throughout the school day.

Congratulations to Eastern Middle School and everyone who helped bring this project to life. We’re pleased to have provided free materials through our CBB program, which supports nonprofits and community organizations working to strengthen our region.

Reuse is about preserving materials and it's also about supporting our neighbors.

When a senior living on a limited income in Washington, DC, lost the use of her oven and needed air conditioning during the summer months, Community Forklift's Home Essentials Program (HELP) was able to provide a free gently used stove and two window AC units.

Her daughter later shared: "Thank you so much for your help in securing a stove and air conditioning units for my mom's house... You have made a great impact on our family's day-to-day living."

Stories like this show how donated home goods can make an immediate difference for families facing unexpected challenges. "It's just perfect!"

One Forklift Fan had been casually searching for a vintage flush-mount light for their dining room. They needed something low-profile for the space, but didn't want to sacrifice character and style.

They spotted this pan light at our reuse warehouse and a few days later it was installed and shining in its new home, adding exactly the charm they had been hoping for.

Move-out day doesn’t have to be throw-out day!

A big thank you to Georgetown University, the Office of Sustainability, and Office of Neighborhood Life for partnering with us during this year's Move-Out Drive!

Each year, graduating and departing students have the opportunity to donate furniture, housewares, clothing, and other useful items rather than sending them to the landfill. Our team is proud to help collect and redistribute these materials so they can continue serving our community. Thank you to everyone who donated and helped give these items a second life through reuse!

When Ms. G's refrigerator stopped working, she was left trying to support her four children through the summer without a reliable way to keep food fresh and without air conditioning in the children's bedrooms. Through Community Forklift's Home Essentials Program, she received a gently used refrigerator and two window AC units, helping bring comfort and stability back to her home.

This is the power of reuse. Donated items don't just stay out of the landfill, but they also help neighbors meet real needs and create healthier, safer homes.
