You can donate your unneeded building materials, appliances, furniture, and housewares, and we'll redistribute them to the community! You can also shop for needed items at our nonprofit reuse warehouse, open to the public every day from 12 to 5 pm. Reuse is a bright idea!

Community Forklift's Community Building Blocks (CBB) program provided free lighting for the gloriously glowing set of Keegan Theatre's production of Hundred Days. Through CBB, Community Forklift provides free salvaged building materials to nonprofits and community groups for projects that serve the public.

Calling old house lovers!

Community Forklift will be at the Capitol Hill Restoration Society 2026 House Expo on Saturday, October 31! Stop by to learn about our nonprofit reuse warehouse and discover affordable salvaged building materials that can help bring your next home improvement project to life.

The Expo brings together contractors and service providers who specialize in older homes, from historic window repair to masonry and carpentry. It's free and open to the public, so come ask questions and find resources.

When a household in Montgomery County found that its stove had become unsafe to use, Community Forklift’s Home Essentials Program (HELP) provided a gently used electric stove at no cost. HELP connects households with limited incomes to essential appliances and other materials they need to make their homes safer and more comfortable.

As a nonprofit, Community Forklift relies on financial donations to sustain our mission of keeping usable materials in circulation and making home improvement more affordable. Your support helps make this work possible and strengthens our ability to connect people with the materials they need.

This fabulous pair of salvaged shell-motif ceiling medallions and globe pendant lights from our reuse warehouse have found a new home in this cozy library office. Looks like the perfect spot to curl up with a good book and let your imagination wander!

It’s just a bunch of Horkus Forkus!

Our Halloween-themed First Friday earlier this month was full of creative costumes, good food, live music, art, and wonderful company. Thank you to everyone who came out and helped make it such a fun evening!

Halloween is almost here, but there's still time to find inspiration for your costume or decorations. You never know what you'll discover at Community Forklift, from unexpected materials for a DIY costume to secondhand treasures for your Halloween décor.

When you walk the aisles at Community Forklift, do you ever think “that is definitely meant for the stage”? James Raymond, the set designer for KIPP DC Legacy College Preparatory in Southeast D.C., had that exact thought when he visited us to source props for their student production of “Little Shop of Horrors.”

Through our Community Building Blocks (CBB) program, we provided free materials for the production, including a vintage 1940s pistachio dental unit perfect for the infamous dentist scenes! These materials helped create an immersive, professional experience for these talented students.

But we can't support local creativity without you. As we approach the end of the year, your financial support helps us provide free materials to schools, shelters, and community groups. Every dollar helps turn discarded items into community opportunities.
