For a few hours this week, we stepped away from work and into something better.

Bring Your Kids to Work Day brought fresh faces, big curiosity, and just enough chaos to keep things interesting. Solar cars were built, spaghetti towers tested their limits, and the toddlers… well, they had their own plans.

The best part wasn’t the activities.
It was watching parents and kids side by side, with engineers jumping in just to be part of it. Somewhere along the way, it got a little hard to tell who was teaching who.

It’s easy to talk about the engineering we do.
Days like this are a reminder of who we do it for.

We talk a lot about engineering.
But it actually starts earlier than that.

It starts with survey.

When it’s done right, you don’t notice it.
Everything just… works.

That’s the space our EVS survey team lives in.

They’re out on solar sites across the country and working right here in the Midwest on data centers, highways, and large-scale developments. Quietly gathering the data that everything else depends on.

And that work is evolving fast.

Bigger sites.
More complexity.
Massive data sets (we’re talking billions of LiDAR points).

This team is right in the middle of it, using drones, advanced data processing, and even 24/7 monitoring to make sure projects start with the right foundation.

Not flashy.
But absolutely essential.

If you’re working on something in the Midwest, it all starts with good data.

Ever wonder why some solar projects run smoothly… and others hit delays before construction even starts?

A lot of it comes down to decisions made early, long before anything is built.

In our latest Sounds of Solar episode, Jeremy Schultz (Director of Civil Engineering at EVS) shares how things like site layout, permitting, and even stormwater planning can shape the entire outcome of a project.

It’s a behind-the-scenes look at what really drives success in solar.

Solar projects are getting bigger. The work behind them is getting more complex. And somehow… the timelines keep getting shorter.

Our latest episode of Sounds of Solar dives into how engineers are adapting to that reality using smarter tools and better ways of working. This one feels like sitting in on a really good team conversation about what’s changing in engineering right now.

We talk about automation (the helpful kind), what AI actually does well, where humans still matter most, and how learning new tools can make work feel less painful and more creative.

If you’re curious how clean energy gets built behind the scenes, this is a fun, approachable listen.

The biggest game of the year is here and while the Seahawks and Patriots battle it out on Super Bowl Sunday, some of us will be watching the power behind the plays.

Levi’s Stadium set the tone in 2014 as the first pro football stadium to earn LEED Gold certification, with nearly 1,200 solar panels and smart sustainability baked into the design. Fast forward to 2024, and the bar jumped again.

That year, Allegiant Stadium hosted the first Super Bowl powered entirely by renewable energy, sourced from the Arrow Canyon Solar + Energy Storage Project in Nevada. EVS had a front-row seat on the engineering side, supporting Arrow Canyon with civil, electrical, structural, power studies, and survey services to help bring that clean energy to life.

Some people tune in for the plays or the halftime show.
We tune in for the lights and the impact of our industry.
Okay, we watch the plays too!

Here’s to a great game, great energy, and a grid that keeps getting cleaner.

Career Fair season can bring up a lot of memories.

The excitement of graduating.
The nerves of walking into that first career fair.
And the realization that most of what you learn happens after you land the job.

Our latest episode of Sounds of Solar features emerging engineers in their first years working across electrical power studies, substations, and civil engineering. They share honest stories about transitioning from school to industry, learning on the job, and finding confidence in the early stages of a career in renewables.

Whether you’re a student getting ready for career fairs, a recent graduate, or someone looking back on those first steps, this is an easy, thoughtful listen to wrap up the week or head into the weekend.

The power grid touches all of our lives, but most people never see what’s happening behind the scenes.

In the latest episode of Sounds of Solar, we talk with Ryan Grady, Director of Transmission at EVS, about why the U.S. transmission system is under more pressure than ever. Aging infrastructure, rapid growth in data centers, electric vehicles, and renewable energy are all colliding faster than the grid was originally built to handle.

Ryan shares what this means for reliability, resilience, and the future of how electricity moves across the country.

At EVS, we’re growing our transmission team and services to stay ahead of these changes and help shape the next chapter of energy infrastructure.

Give the episode a listen at https://youtu.be/ZaGg9sRytd0 and learn what’s powering the grid behind the scenes.

For years, solar and storage have been accelerating faster than the grid was built to handle. In this episode of Sounds of Solar, we zoom out to examine what...

Our newest Sounds of Solar episode is live and it’s a good one! We’re talking agrivoltaics - where farming and solar energy team up in the same field.

Think berries that thrive in partial shade. Sheep earning their keep as natural landscapers. And solar panels designed to keep crops cool while generating clean power. It’s a fresh, fun look at an emerging trend that could reshape how land is used across the country.
