🚨Did you know? Pressure ulcers are a hidden risk in veterinary procedures! 🐾
Pressure ulcers, also known as decubitus ulcers, are injuries caused by prolonged pressure on the skin and underlying tissues. This is a common, yet frequently misdiagnosed issue in veterinary procedures, especially during prolonged surgeries or dental work under anesthesia.

These ulcers occur because constant pressure stops normal blood flow and oxygen to the tissues causing ischemia and tissue hypoxia, eventually leading to cell death. The presence of heat in the area under pressure can aggravate these conditions, intensifying tissue hypoxia and thus the risk of cell death. Therefore, managing pressure during procedures requiring the use of patient warming is essential.
