I was answering emails at my desk today when a co-worker told me that someone had an Iso-Tip question. This wasn’t anything unusual, but then I was told that this person was currently in the office to buy replacement parts for his Soldering Iron. This sparked the idea of offering rebuild kits to our customers. We know you are all Smart Humans who can complete these repairs yourself if provided with the parts. This kit includes a battery, tip, bulb, and instructions. It is worth noting repairing any iron requires another soldering iron in order to install the battery.

A review from grayfurnaceman on YouTube brought up one of our most frequent questions we receive - Why use an incandescent soldering iron bulb with all of the benefits of an LED bulb?

The answer is kind of simple yet some of you may question it. The cost efficiency just isn’t there. The cost of a micro-LED soldering iron bulb is significantly higher than just a simple incandescent. So rather than charge every customer for the LED soldering iron bulb we placed the ball in your court. Finding a LED replacement is easy and we have the instructions on how to convert to an LED soldering iron bulb.

Recently, we had an Iso-Tip customer share with us that he had to repair a school’s PA sound system. Given the small wire and hard to reach location, he found our battery powered cordless soldering iron design with our extended micro tip to be a great match for the job! At the end of the day, he has to help keep those rascals in line at school, and keep himself out of the principal’s office.

Folks who use our butane tools commonly ask us what’s the best butane to use when filling up on my tool? The higher the quality the butane, the better performance butane tool. Over at Iso-Tip we prefer to use Master Appliance’s butane as it has a low number of impurities. This is really the only difference in different brands of butane. The lower the number of impurities, the better. We recommend using a butane that has less than 50 PPM impurities. Learn more about good quality butane on our website!

THROWBACK THURSDAY! Once upon a time Iso-Tip, formerly known as Wahl Sterling or Wahl Clipper, provided customers with a desoldering tool. This item did go obsolete over the years before Senasys acquired the product line. Because we sell Tools Worth Discovering, we get to see these obsolete products from the 1970s still in working condition.

Silver Bearing Solder Paste & Zinc Alloy - Does it work? Zinc alloy is a pretty broad range of materials and so the first answer was – we don’t know. That’s pretty weak so we found a zinc die cast part we use and tested it. This was a Zinc AG40A die cast, un-plated material. We tested the silver bearing solder paste in some porous sections and between the threads. In both cases the paste did not adhere well to the zinc die cast. We tried again on a nickel-plated zinc part and got the same results.
