Dear NAFCA, Supporters, Donors, and Volunteers,

As a mom, it’s hard to put into words just how much this means to our family—but I am going to try.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you to each and every one of you who played a part in making this fence a reality for our son, Mason. What you have given us is so much more than a fence—you have given us peace of mind, safety, and a sense of relief that we have never truly had before.

This journey began back in December when I reached out to Clint from Log Cabin Fence seeking assistance. Before that, I had sent out countless emails to different fencing businesses and received little to no response. It was discouraging at times, but I was on a mission—I wasn’t going to give up. As a mother, I knew how important it was to create a safe, secure space for my child, and I was determined to find a way to make it happen. Mason is non verbal - autistic and a runner with no sense of safety awareness, so the need for this fence wasn’t just a want—it was critical for his safety.

Then something incredible happened. People showed up.

To all of our material donors—thank you for your generosity and kindness. You didn’t just donate supplies, you helped build safety, freedom, and security for our son.

Dinner Donors: thank you for stepping in and making sure everyone who came together to work on this project was cared for and supported. Your generosity kept people going through long days and meant more than words can express.

And to all of the volunteers—your dedication and willingness to give your time and energy means more than we can put into words. Some of you traveled hours across Pennsylvania, while others came from states such as North Carolina, Ohio, Texas, Las Vegas, and New York—and even from another country, Canada. Your commitment and compassion helped turn this vision into a safe, secure reality for our family. Because of all of you, Mason now has a safe place to run, play, and just be a kid. For the first time, I can take a breath knowing he is secure. That feeling is something I will carry with me forever.

What started as one email and a mother’s determination turned into something far greater—a fencing community coming together to change a child’s life.

History of Modern Fence Technologies & K and R Manufacturing
Family Owned and Operated by Mark and Marge Knudson
Mark and Marge Knudson started their journey in the fence industry in 1976. From the beginning, they were committed to quality — always installing heavy-duty hinges on commercial gates.
Their first company, FIS (Fence Installation Services), installed every type of fence: wood, chain link, aluminum, and ornamental iron. They began as an installation-only contractor but quickly grew into a full-service wholesale, retail, commercial, and residential business known as All City Fence.
FIS became known across the Midwest as the only fence contractor specializing in doweled post-and-rail wood construction — an innovative technique they developed to make fences stronger and longer-lasting.
In 1988, they launched Post Holes Unlimited to help contractors with the difficult job of digging post holes.
By the mid-1980s, vinyl fence started gaining popularity in the industry. Many claimed it was completely maintenance-free. Seeing the need for better hardware to match the quality of their wood fence systems, the Knudson's began manufacturing vinyl post caps using their own fabrication equipment. This allowed them to offer contractors a complete, high-quality installation package.
In the mid-1990s, their innovations in vinyl and wood fence installation caught the attention of Triton College in Chicago. The college contracted with them (through the AFA) to share their expertise.
In the late 1990s (1998–1999), the Knudson's were involved in the early development of regional chapters of what became the American Fence Association, with activity in Waco, TX; Athens, GA; and Tulsa, OK.
In 1998, Modern Fence Technologies (MFT) made a major shift — moving away from contracting to focus on wholesale and resale. This followed the launch of their own manufacturing facility, K & R Manufacturing, in 1997.
Today, MFT’s hinges, vinyl caps, and other fence hardware are proudly manufactured in America at their facility in East Troy, Wisconsin. Using 20–30% more material than cheaper alternatives, MFT products cost less per pound while delivering superior strength and durability that stands up to the elements for a lifetime.
MFT is truly a family business. Sons Matt and Mark (Bear) have been involved since they were born. Their ideas and hands-on input have played a major role in the company’s success and product innovations.
Over the years, MFT products have been widely copied, with lower-quality knockoffs appearing on the market. The Knudson's stand firmly behind their work and offer a lifetime warranty on all MFT products — a reflection of their confidence in American-made quality.
Installers, extruder's, and wholesale fabricators regularly turn to MFT when they need new products that solve real problems in the fence industry.
