FROM THE RHODE ISLAND TRUCKING ASSOCIATION:

Rhodeworks Relief Rescinded
- Registration fee reductions for the fiscal year 2017 which to took effect July 1, 2017 and were to remain in effect until June 30, 2018 have been rescinded as of September 24.

- The $1.9 million dollars earmarked for Clean Diesel grants for Rhode Island companies wishing to invest in efficiency and environmental upgrades to equipment has been reduced to $500,000.

Both items were enacted by the General Assembly simultaneous to the passage of RhodeWorks and were intended to provide relief to Rhode Island businesses impacted by truck-only tolls.

This represents a similar action by the General Assembly which removed $13.5 million in proposed tax credits from the original RhodeWorks legislation. Another protection - a $40 per vehicle/per day cap - is vulnerable and very likely to face a legal challenge.

RITA encourages all members and business owners to mobilize and express their outrage over the General Assembly's deceptive tactics.
