According to the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC), the construction industry will need to attract approximately 349,000 net new workers in 2026 just to meet demand. That figure is projected to climb to 456,000 in 2027.
The challenge isn't simply finding more workers. It's adapting to how the workforce itself is changing.
More of the work on today's jobsites is being performed by technicians who are earlier in their careers, while experienced professionals are stretched across more projects and have less capacity to provide the oversight and mentorship that once served as the industry's primary quality mechanism.
That shift has operational consequences. The gap between how installation work was designed to be performed and how it is often executed today continues to widen. And it is within that gap that assumption becomes operational risk.
