Expand your team’s capabilities with hands-on training at Barbco University! 🎓

We recently welcomed four team members, including foremen and supervisors, from Glory Utilities LLC out of North Carolina for our four-day Basic Auger Boring Course.

Glory Utilities is an established Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) contractor serving North Carolina and surrounding states. As the company looks to expand its trenchless capabilities into auger boring, their team turned to Barbco University to gain the knowledge and practical, hands-on experience needed to confidently enter this new area of trenchless installation. ✅

A key component of this training involves assembling, setting up, and operating a steering head system in conjunction with a water level. Understanding how to properly utilize these tools provides contractors with a proven, straightforward method of maintaining grade throughout a bore — and adjusting when necessary.

As highlighted by the attendees in this video, there’s no substitute for hands-on experience. Barbco University is designed to provide realistic, practical training that prepares operators for the challenges they’ll encounter on an actual auger boring jobsite.

Barbco’s Co-Owner, Tony Barbera, Director of Training, Drake Barbera, and Senior Field Trainer & Technical Advisor, Keith “Sparky” Guthrie, recently set up, deployed, and tested a newly revised version of our BBC55 Retractable Roller Cone Cutting Head.

Every new design and engineering revision at Barbco undergoes testing to ensure our equipment performs as intended under real-world operating conditions. This critical step in our development process allows us to evaluate functionality, verify performance, and continue delivering the dependable equipment that contractors have come to expect from Barbco. 🤝

As the smallest auger boring machine in our lineup, the 30-230 is engineered to deliver impressive performance in tight pits and confined working conditions.

Trenchless technology plays a critical role in our everyday lives, yet much of the work that makes modern infrastructure possible goes unseen.

Recently, our vendor Superior Diesel hosted a meeting with John Deere / John Deere executives to highlight the various applications of John Deere-powered equipment across different industries. Barbco was honored to be among the manufacturers invited to participate, showcasing our workhorse 48/60-950 Auger Boring Machine (ABM) provided by our Texas based Authorized Dealer, U.S. Shoring & Equipment Co. 🇺🇸

Barbco extends our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Leo Barbera, who passed away on October 6, 2026.

Leo’s impact on the trenchless industry reaches far beyond the company he built. As the founder of American Augers, he helped open doors, create opportunities, and establish a foundation that would influence generations of people within the auger boring industry—including his younger brother, Barbco founder James S. “Jim” Barbera.

Before founding Barbco in 1989, Jim worked alongside his brother at American Augers as a service technician and in sales. The experience, opportunities, and industry knowledge gained during those years became an important part of Jim’s own path forward.

Without Leo’s influence and the doors he helped open, Barbco may not exist as we know it today.

The Barbera family’s contributions to the trenchless industry took different paths, but their stories will always be connected. Today, we remember Leo and recognize the lasting impact his life and work had on our industry, our founder, and ultimately, Barbco.

Our thoughts are with the entire Barbera family and all those who knew and loved Leo.

to the 2002 HDD Rodeo at Texas Motor Speedway, where Barbco attempted something a little out of the ordinary… pulling a Volkswagen Bug straight into the ground! 🚗💥

Using our Barbco BD100 directional drill and a 54” fluted packer reamer, we set out to pull a fully restored VW Bug underground. After plenty of preparation and some impressive progress, we made it as far as the front fenders before speedway officials shut down the operation due to safety concerns.

While we never got to finish the pull, it certainly made for a memorable moment in Barbco history! Check out the second slide which features part of the original ad for this event.

Fast forward 24 years, and we’re gearing up for the 2026 HDD Rodeo! Barbco will be exhibiting at Outdoor Booth O-10, and we’ve got something special in store. Be sure to stop by and check it out! 👀
