Using plans that were shared with me by Devon Berg, we got together yesterday and created charcoal smelters from steel buckets, 8 inch steel vent pipe, 2 inch steel electrical conduit, cheap play sand and Plaster of Paris. All of the joints were sealed up with high temperature caulk. An old hair dryer with a burned out heating element will be attached to the 2" electrical conduit fitting as a blower. I should be able to use a quarter to a third of a bag of charcoal and easily reach melt temperatures of 1000+ degrees.

This album will show my experiments in metallurgy and the creation of lightweight hybrid alloys. I am focusing on creating hybrids of zinc, aluminum, pewter, silver and brass. My goal is to create non-toxic lightweight metals to cast for use in costuming and props.
