Today, in the , how DTL and help locals save money and reduce waste.

At a time when so many things are more expensive (sob), and when the more sustainable option is often the more expensive option (boo), DTL and the Outdoor Exchange are out here:

(1) Offering more affordable options
(2) Making the more sustainable option the more affordable option

Huzzah!

Thanks to the Herald for the story. Thanks to the Outdoor Exchange for what you bring to our community. And thanks to DTL members and supporters; you make the tool library possible.

This year's repair cafe was a blast. We had a fabulous crew of volunteers, and together we repaired lamps, zippers, bicycles, sewing machines, and more.

Thanks to our volunteers for sharing their time and skills.

And thanks to community members for bringing in things to be repaired.

Together, we helped make a bunch of things useful for longer.

The first new shelf build in what is going to be a very ambitious series of shelf builds.

We have big plans for improving our space to keep growing the tool library in support of our community. As the tool library grows, we need more tools and more space to put those tools.

So, there will be lots more shelves in our future - even a second story mezzanine and a workshop space, if we can pull it off.

New year, new due date card. When you check out tools, we provide a due date card listing the tools you have and when they are due - as a reminder to bring the tools back in 1 week.

Each year, we do a different color and punctuality-related quote for the due date cards.

2026 is pink with a reminder from Yogi Berra that "It's getting late early".

Tools need to be returned on time to ensure they are available for other members to use. The tool library is fundamentally about sharing, after all. Be a friend and bring back your tools on time.

A few highlights from 2025 for the tool library.

2,455 tools were borrowed in 2025. That brings our all-time total to over 6,200 borrows.

The cordless drill driver was the most borrowed tool, just edging out the multi-position ladders and trigger clamps for the top spot.

We added 90 tools to the catalog, growing our tool collection to over 500 tools.

Our most popular newly added tool: chainsaws!

On average, members saved over $1,400 by sharing tools instead of buying their own. Every member saved money by sharing. But the biggest saver saved nearly $9,000.

DTL hosted our first-ever intern, Braden. He did some fabulous work to help us grow the tool catalog, keep tools in circulation, and other key behind-the-scenes activities.

Last but not least, we bought our space. We hope to secure a long-term home for the tool library and ensure we can continue to keep member subscriptions as affordable as possible.

A big thank you to all those who have become members, borrowed tools, donated tools, advocated for us, or otherwise supported the tool library in 2025. We're so grateful for your support. 🧡

Traded hats with friends of the in Fairbanks, AK.

We love connecting with other tool libraries and their members. And we're closing in on a bingo for tool library merchandise from around NA.

But, most of all, we're stoked to be a part of a larger movement to share tools with our communities. 🔧🧡
