Situated on the second floor of UI Health in Chicago sits a floating contemplation space colloquially (and aptly) named “The Egg”. It serves as a quiet space for visitors & staff to collect their thoughts and escape the day to day. Clad in Smith & Fong Plyboo panels, the contemplation space floats within the Welcome Atrium and aligns with the main concourse creating an inspiring, welcoming space for all.

Bamboo into building material, the Plyboo way:
Culms are sliced into strips, steamed for natural tone or heat treated for richer color, kiln dried, then laminated with low emitting soy resin into edge grain or flat grain panels and plywood. PlybooStrand goes further: fibers are crushed, resin saturated, hot pressed, then sliced into ultra dense panels and flooring. Rapidly renewable and engineered for architecture.
