🔵When forming catheter tips using PVC, success really comes down to getting the heat and material flow right.

In this project, we worked on a 21FR PVC bullet nose catheter and ran into a couple of challenges early on. The material was sticking to the die, and the tip shapes were inconsistent.

Using our Dual Air Tipper, we made a few key adjustments. We applied mold release to prevent sticking, positioned the coil to only heat the start of the taper and slight overinserted the tube to ensure enough material filled both the outer shape and the inside of the tip.

As a result, 99% of the 60 tested samples met requirements, with fully formed tips and no bubbles or voids.

It’s a good reminder that when working with PVC, small process tweaks can have a big impact on consistency and quality.

April 20th was a day of celebration at ONEX RF! 🎉

We just acquired a technology, which made it possible to make our first in-house complex , for flashless tipping application. 🔩

Until recently, we were able to make basic mandrels, and some complex ones we would farm out to a local partner company, which could take as long as 4 to 8 weeks due to workload or high-tolerance requirements ⏳

We are happy to share our excitement and commitment to faster lead times, by slowly ramping up our mandrel production and the ability to manufacturing them in 2-3 weeks, same as our catheter tip-forming dies 🚀

🔵 Here are some examples of tip formed with the ONEX RF Servo-Tipper-PRO.

The customer had very low yields and the challenge was the material buckling, due to softness and even heating the material without burns or bubbles when using narrow heat zone coil, fixed force and fixed position .

The slightest variation in Catheter material, diameter or durometer plus tubing wall thickness, can affect how tubing behaves during the forming process.

Hence the need for the new ONEX Servo-Tipper-Pro, which was developed to overcome the challenges above, using Direct Force Feedback to monitor and control force during the forming process, helping reduce over-insertion, preventing buckling, and improve tip-forming consistency.

How and why does ONEX Servo Tipper PRO outperform other Catheter Tipping systems?

✅ On the original ONEX Servo Tipper models, you could control slide speed and forming depth, which gave a significant process control advantage over air tippers.
✅ The new Servo Tipper PRO uses built-in force feedback, which allows you to monitor and control insertion force and provides a signal to wet the die with solvent when the removal force exceeds a set value.
✅ The new robot interface can be directly connected to other automation cells and communicate via Ethernet/IP and discrete I/O.
