These include design-build, Construction Management / General Contractor and traditional design-bid-build projects

. In 2009, the company was purchased by Sterling Construction Company out of Houston, Texas. Sterling is ranked 91 by the ENR Top 400 Contractors, 16 of the Top 20 Transportation Contractors and 15 of the Top 50 Domestic Contractor for 2010. Con and Tod continue to operate Ralph L. Wadsworth Construction and provide the continuity to maintain the growth and innovation for which the company is known. RLW’s success can be attributed to four underlying factors:

Cumulative growth of over 404% since 2001 by continually winning larger projects that entail innovative contracting and construction methods. Providing long-term career opportunities for all categories of employees. A client base comprised of repeat customers while adding new ones each year. Lifetime friendships of co-workers, and subconsultants and suppliers. Top management at RLW promotes a team environment and encourages input from all levels of staff and employees. This approach results in a dedicated and hardworking workforce that will pitch in to see a project completed successfully and on time. The lengthy tenure of many of key employees is not only a tribute to the company, but benefits the project owner when a seasoned team is building their project. Our entire company works as a team and takes great pride in our projects and the Ralph L. Quality is paramount on every project – no matter the size, scope or schedule. RLW instills and build quality at every level of the organization and their projects are recognized annually for it. The company operates on the notion that the next job is dependent on the current one. Quality is checked throughout the project, but more importantly, quality is a way of doing business from the bottom up.

POV: You build Mission Critical
Nothing out here is casual. Schedules drive everything, multiple trades are moving at once, and small mistakes turn into big problems fast. We focus on staying ahead, communicating clearly, and doing the work right the first time. It’s not flashy. It’s just consistent, well-coordinated work in an environment that doesn’t leave much room for anything else.
Big shoutout to our Mission Critical crews for getting the work done the RLW way!

What is the official breakfast in the field? Turns out it’s caffeine and pure determination. Not exactly what nutritionists recommend… but it seems to be working for the Wads Squad!

When a region grows, the roads that connect it must grow with it.
Families need reliable routes to work and school. Commuters depend on access to I-15. Emergency responders require safe, dependable crossings. And Hill AFB needs infrastructure that can support future access and long-term mission readiness.
On the 1800 North project, RLW and Whitaker are helping UDOT deliver a critical connection for northern Davis County by building new roadways, bridges, utilities, and interchange improvements along this vital east-west corridor.
Since breaking ground in January 2025, the RLW-Whitaker team has made significant progress across every phase of the project. While several milestones still lie ahead, RLW-Whitaker continues to keep residents and businesses top of mind by planning each phase of work with a focus on access, communication, and minimizing disruptions.
Large infrastructure projects take more than equipment, concrete, steel, and pipe. They take planning, coordination, safety, and, most of all, pride in the work that keeps communities moving and growing for generations to come.

Maintaining your mental health is just as important as wearing your hard hat- read that again.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month and it’s something our industry can’t afford to ignore. Construction continues to face one of the highest su***de rates and 64% of workers report experiencing anxiety or depression in the past year.

That won’t change unless we start talking about it.

Check on your crew. Be someone who listens. Encourage others to get help when it’s needed. Looking out for each other goes beyond the jobsite.

Let’s break the stigma together 🤝

Project Update: Gypsum Wastewater Treatment Plant

A lot has happened since our last update at the Gypsum Wastewater Treatment Plant. Over the past few months, crews reached a major milestone with the completion of the Headworks building.

Between December and March, crews placed more than 1,300 cubic yards of concrete to build the foundation, walls, and roof of the structure. This phase also included building watertight tanks and installing concrete features needed for specialized equipment throughout the facility.

At the same time, crews finished underground piping, protective pipe encasements, and the outfall structure, bringing this phase of the project closer to completion.

The team is now wrapping up final details before preparing for the next phase: upgrades to the existing treatment plant.

Safety starts as soon as our boots hit ground. Being means taking safety seriously every second of every day. That’s why we start each and every day with a quick safety meeting and a stretch and flex. Our goal is to get everyone home safe to their loved ones every single day.

It takes G.U.T.S. to be safe!

05/04/2026

Today marks the start of Construction Safety Week, an initiative we don’t take lightly at RLW.

Construction leads the nation in workplace fatalities. The risks are real, every single day and that’s why our commitment is simple: everyone goes home safe. Every day.

This year, we continue with our theme: G.U.T.S. - Get Us There Safely.

Having G.U.T.S. means speaking up, looking out for each other, and stopping work when something isn’t right, no questions asked.

Safety isn’t just a box we check. It’s how we operate.

It takes G.U.T.S. to work at RLW. Do you have them?
