Today, we're celebrating Family-Owned & Operated Business Day! It all started with a storm and a fallen White Oak on a family farm in Queen Anne’s County, Maryland 🌳

But instead of seeing an end, Jim Boyle and his son David saw a beginning. David joined his father to turn that tree into something lasting, built with care, purpose, and a shared vision between generations.

Over a decade later, we're still family-owned, still hands-on, and still giving trees a second life 🪵 What began with one storm has grown into a full-service woodworking and design studio, where every piece we create still carries a bit of that original story with it ✨

For , we are highlighting and celebrating the five families that were recently inducted into the Century Farm Program. This honor is reserved for Maryland farms that have been owned and operated by the same family for at least 100 years.
Our third highlight takes us to the Eastern Shore to visit Linden Lane Farm in Talbot County. The farm’s story began in 1921 with Frank and Hilka Saathoff, who planted linden trees from Germany in the front yard to mark the occasion, and those very trees are still standing today!
While the farm originally raised dairy cattle and poultry, current owners Wesley and Linda Brown have transitioned the land to grow a beautiful variety of fruits and vegetables. They don't just sell their harvest; they are well-known for donating fresh produce back to their community.
The Browns are also leaders in conservation, earning a Level 3 award from the USDA for their efforts in no-till farming and cover cropping. They’ve even been part of the Maryland Nutrient Management Program since it started in 1989. Walking the grounds, you can still see the original 1920s farmhouse, granary, and milk house being put to good use.
