Check out this amazing photo of the wind-whipped fire which this past Tuesday evening, April 24th, engulfed this barn facing Rt. 30 near Lee Center in Lee County, IL--90 miles west of Chicago. The photo comes to us from Ken Murphy who writes: "This absolute hellish wind-swept fire happened Sunday near Lee Center, IL in Lee Co. This is a south facing shot from Rt 30. It appears embers from the first blaze, of unknown origin, to the right were blown by westerly winds onto the structure. A sudden shift in winds from the ENE caused the scene to explode back in the direction of the first on scene, mainly volunteer, firefighters who beat a hasty retreat. I've found no reports of injuries, but can not verify that fact, either way. I did witness units responding from as far away as Rock Falls (25miles) to the scene. The main house was saved but it appears most, if not all, of the outbuildings will be a total loss."
That is a horrific fire! What a photo! We're glad to report there were no reports of injuries--hard to fathom given the ferocity of this blaze. Thanks for calling this to our attention, Ken!
