A major milestone for the Big Cut Road Bridge project! These photos capture the installation of five 6 foot tall by 155’ long prestressed concrete girders over the BNSF railroad in Carrol County, Illinois. Our team is proud to support the Carroll County Highway Department by performing the design and construction inspection for the project.

The Iowa Gamma Chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon engaged Willett, Hofmann & Associates (WHA) to improve the backyard and parking lot of their University of Iowa chapter house. The project began when an aging 22-foot, three-tier retaining wall—separating the upper parking lot from a lower recreational area—was deemed structurally deficient and required replacement. City code also required updates to the parking lot to include a buffer along the public sidewalk.
During design, it was determined that the adjacent volleyball and basketball courts also needed reconstruction. The fraternity upgraded the sand volleyball area to a regulation court for their annual Big Brothers Big Sisters philanthropy tournament and redesigned the basketball court to accommodate both basketball and pickleball. The revitalized outdoor space has improved safety, functionality, and recreational value, earning positive feedback from members, neighbors, and visitors.

On Friday, March 20, WHA Sponsored the ISAWWA District 1 Water Taste Competition hosted by North Park Water at their Water Plant. This was the 12th year WHA sponsored the Regional Competition, and this year’s judges were employees from WHA’s Water-Wastewater Department. Participants included North Park Water, the City of East Moline, the City of Rock Island, the City of Love’s Park, and the City of Rockford. North Park Water won this year’s Regional Competition and will move on to compete at the IL State Competition at WATERCON in April.

TR 312 Over Masters Fork - Bureau County, IL
Willett, Hofmann & Associates was retained by the Bureau County Highway Department to provide Phase I and Phase II engineering services for the removal and replacement of the bridge carrying Township Route 312 over Masters Fork in LaMoille Township. The project involved removing the existing single-span (1 @ 50') through girder slab bridge supported on closed abutments and replacing it with a single-span (1 @ 70') precast prestressed concrete deck beam bridge supported on spill-through abutments.
