Every quarter we set aside some of the company profits for some form of office fun or betterment—aka Quarters for Quarters! In the past, people have organized company bowling parties, gotten plants for the office, installed new booths in our meeting space, and ordered food trucks for team lunches. This last quarter, Leanne got new board games, yard games, and fitness trackers for the company!

Buy-in is really important to growth—we thrive when our staff invests in company improvement and makes decisions that help us grow. That’s why we try to use a decision-maker model where
the person most affected by a problem or closest to a situation makes the decision. They should ask for advice, but they get to have the final say in how to proceed.

Q4Q is one way we encourage staff ownership and practice decision-maker. As a bonus, we also end up with some really cool stuff that makes work more fun!

Our Office Apprentices have been crushing their Katapult Pro training! 💪

After going through a week of intensive training, they’ve been working with our Engineering Services team to put their new OSP knowledge into practice. It’s been great to have them around the last couple of weeks to test and give feedback on our Office Apprenticeship training program.

Our industry can be pretty niche, but we want to equip more folks to help bring reliable utilities to people and communities across the country!

Last week was the 109th Farmers Fair! Another great weekend of food trucks, ice cream churn-offs, pickle pitching, and the iconic parade. It’s a privilege to be a part of this community and call this town home. Huge thank you to the board, vendors, volunteers, and all the folks who make this possible year after year!

Have you ever seen this☝️before? In the pole industry this is commonly referred to as double wood. It’s what happens when a pole isn’t safe anymore and the utility company replaces it. Each cable on the pole is owned by a separate company, and each company has to move their own attachment. While it can be a huge headache and can take a long time to finish, replacing poles helps build and maintain a safe and reliable grid!

Utilities are one of those things we don’t really think about unless something is wrong.

(How often do we talk about great cell signals or the beauty of working lights?)

But for some people, strong WiFi or great service is an anomaly, not the expectation. Nothing made this more obvious than the pandemic.

Communities across the country still struggle to find reliable services. Public initiatives like RDOF, BEAD, and Internet for All are working to close the gap for rural areas.

And when it comes to broadband deployment, providers continue to rely on utility poles to help reach those communities.
