SeaView just completed this custom surface and subsea power supply and 5km tether for a Seaeye Falcon belonging to a client in China. Prior to this, the longest tether I've run a Falcon on was 3km and while I regularly monitor the output current while flying, I always thought it would be really useful to be able to know what's going on at the VPSU as well as the know the losses in the tether. Fortunately, there are two unused conductors in the connector between the VPSU and Falcon Junction box so we utilized them to transmit that information to be displayed on the surface power supply. Also, due to the wide input voltage range, you can easily swap between 5km and 300m tethers without having to tune the surface power supply.
VPSU:
Input Voltage 500-800 Vdc
Output Voltage 48vdc
Power Output 3.6Kw
300m or 1000m depth rating
Data comms: RS485
