Celebrating Women in Science at Somat!

On this International Day of Women and Girls in Science, we proudly recognize Kelcie Autry and Alexis Blackmore, two dedicated Environmental Scientists at Somat Engineering, Inc.

Kelcie joined Somat nearly three years ago right after college and has since played a key role in numerous projects for Wayne County Airport Authority, Great Lakes Water Authority, and Ann Arbor Area Transportation Authority. She also dedicated over 1,000 hours to the MDOT Bridge Bundling Project (Phase I & II), contributing to critical infrastructure improvements across Michigan.

Alexis is the newest addition to our team, bringing extensive experience in environmental site assessments, groundwater and soil sampling, and remediation oversight. Her background in natural resources management strengthens our commitment to quality and sustainability in engineering solutions.

At Somat, we believe in fostering an environment where People Matter, and we’re proud to have Kelcie and Alexis as part of our team. Today, we celebrate their contributions and the inspiration they bring to the next generation of women in STEM!

Celebrating 35 Years of Leadership and Dedication!

Today, we proudly celebrate Ram’s 35-year journey with Somat Engineering, Inc.!

Ra, joined Somat Engineering, Inc. in 1989 as a geotechnical engineer—his first and only professional job after earning his Master’s Degree. Beginning his career in the field, he performed geotechnical instrumentation and operated drill rigs, gaining firsthand experience in every aspect of Somat’s work. His dedication, vision, and leadership led him to become President & CEO, guiding the firm’s growth while upholding the principles of our Founder, Ramji Patel.

Beyond engineering, Ram is deeply involved in industry, civic, religious, and charitable initiatives. He serves on the Board of Directors for ACEC Michigan, is a proud husband, father, and grandfather, and gives back to his community as a Sunday School teacher. A staunch advocate for Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (DBEs), Ram actively supports diversity and inclusion within the engineering industry.

Ram’s journey is a testament to hard work, perseverance, and Somat’s commitment to "Do the Right Thing"—our guiding principle that encompasses our core values: People Matter, Quality, Integrity, Enjoy the Journey and Taking Responsibility.
