Wrapping up the last of our work on the East Warren Farmer Market building er****on and geo thermal scope at .
Geothermal heating (using ground-source heat pumps) uses the Earth's stable subsurface temperature to heat your building in the winter and cool it in the summer. It is highly energy-efficient and drastically reduces utility bills, though high upfront installation costs are a major factor.
How It WorksThermal Exchange:
While outdoor air temperatures fluctuate widely, the temperature just a few feet below the Earth's surface remains relatively constant (typically between 45°F and 55°F) year-round.
The Loop System: A fluid-filled pipe system (ground loop) is buried either horizontally or vertically in your yard. The Heat Pump: In the winter, the fluid absorbs the Earth's heat and pumps it into your home. In the summer, the process reverses: the system pulls warm air from your house and dumps it into the ground.
Energy Efficiency: Rather than creating heat (like a gas furnace), the system simply moves heat, making it up to 3 to 5 times more efficient than traditional HVAC systems.
