Meet the next project Fiero. It's a bright red 88 GT with 56K miles. The engine is making an awful racket, but surprisingly never fails to start.

I'll post updates here like before, but will try to do a better job at explaining what I'm doing as well as take more pics and even some videos.

The plan is to yank out the engine and replace it with one from a wrecked 43K mile 88 GT that I parted out a few years ago. Some "while you're in there's" will include a new clutch, rebuilding of the slave cylinder, new water pump and maybe the timing chain too.

This car will be up for sale once I finish it, so LMK if you're interested in buying it.

I did this for a customer with a wrecked Fiero. He bought an 87 GT from me that sat for 13 years and I swapped over all the mechanical stuff.

I'm not good a documenting stuff....I generally start working and forget to snap pictures or list what I dod. If you guys want me to continue doing this I will do a better job going forward. So LMK if you want me to post future Fiero builds....I have several that need work!

Next up will be an 88 GT with a very noisy engine.

Ha! Here we go again. 🙂

All I had left to do with this 87 GT was to bleed the brakes....should be easy, right? Nope. Of course one of the bleeder screws snapped off. Why wouldn't it? 🙄

It took forever with the extractor kit, but I finally got it out without bunging up the threads. What a pain.

I also discovered that the rear caliper bleeder holes were helicoiled, so the bleeders aren't the standard size. Double whammy is that nobody near me had them in stock. So the bleeding will have to wait until tomorrow. Wish me luck! 😁

She lives!

This project started out with a running, but wrecked 87 GT and a nearly identical non-running, but not wrecked 87GT. I swapped almost everything mechanical over.....what a project! Not sure I ever want to do that again.

Anyway, I got it running on Friday, but my body decided to fail a little bit and I spent the weekend in bed. Nevertheless, it runs and the cooling system is bled and everything works (well...everything on the car 🙂).

I reinstalled the rear bumper and taillights today. All that's left are the shocks & struts (waiting for new ones to arrive), bleeding of the brakes and some misc stuff. Some of that misc stuff is the installation of a factory subwoofer system. The old car had one, but the "new" car didn't.

Everything should be finished this weekend.

Thankfully it came right out with some help from the easy-out.

Even with this little setback, I have the front suspension and AC system installed.

It's all downhill from here. The clutch line, heater lines & brake lines will go in tomorrow. Then it's the gas tank and all the fuel lines from the tank to the fuel rail, coolant hoses, etc, etc.

He has some wild ideas for these and I really hope he finds the time to start on them.

I am now in the process of installing a complete front suspension, brake hardlines, clutch line, complete AC system & heater hardlines from the wrecked GT over to the nearly identical replacement Fiero.

I'm little behind on this, but in my defense it's no fun wrenching in 100* temps. 🙂

Anyway....I just wanted to let everyone who was apoplectic about the old wrecked chassis getting recycled know that it has been saved and will (one day) get resurrected.

I know it looks OK, but it honestly has frame damage and isn't worth fixing. The rear half is in good shape, although the trunk is pushed in pretty good and I dinged the driver floorboard winching it onto the trailer

I'm hauling it away tomorrow morning (Wednesday Aug. 19th) and expect to get roughly $40 for it. If anyone wants it and can pick it up ASAP I'll sell it for the same $40....title included. I can deliver within a 50 mile radius of Denver, CO....just cover the fuel and have some help available to get it off the trailer.
