Ladder cages are a thing of the past.

Not only do they fail to stop nearly any fall, but they are costly and require a great deal of hardware and installation.

Because of this, OSHA has been pushing for Personal Fall Arrest Systems or Ladder Safety Systems to be installed on all new, repaired, or replaced fixed ladders after November 19, 2018 for ladders 24 feet or higher above the lower level. (according to OSHA 1910.28(b)(9)(i))

Thankfully, the best solution is also the easiest: Having an SRL with a tagline installed at the top of a ladder allows your workers to use any standard harness with a back d-ring to maintain connection to an overhead anchorage throughout the ascent or descent; with no special rails, wires, or harnesses required.

When paired with a Reliance SRL such as the Skyloc II and it's patented FailSafe Locking Mechanism with 10 mechanically-forced locking opportunities per rotation, you can achieve arrest distances of under 2 feet, greatly minimizing the arrest forces and the possibility of injury from collision or whiplash.

Weighing just 4.7 lbs, this I-beam anchor achieves a 5,000 pound MBS for a single user and can be installed on I-beams 7-14ft above the working surface using our Remote Telescoping Pole With Socket. The 3593-XX Series Beam Grip Anchor serves as a secure, adjustable anchorage device for your Personal Fall Arrest System.

Simple to install and use, requiring only a 1-1/2” box-end wrench to tighten the outboard nut when the desired width has been reached.

Rated at 5,000 lbs. minimum breaking strength, the Reliance 3593 series beam grips are rated to secure a single user with a combined body/tool weight of up to 400 lbs.

The newly updated Reliance Ironman™ Lite includes a dedicated SRL attachment point under the dorsal D-ring for easier installation. Here's how to use it with our class-leading Micro-Loc™ SRL.

1: Unlock the SRL guide on the triple locking carabiner, then slide the locking sleeve forward and twist to open
2: Remove the SRL closest to the opening
3: Thread the carabiner through the SRL attachment point under the dorsal D-ring
4: Reattach the removed SRL and close and reclip the carabiner

BLS data reports that In 2022 there were 395 fatal falls from elevation in the construction industry, accounting for over a third of all 1069 total deaths.

This week is the National Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls In Construction, a reminder that the time it takes to get your crew together for proper safety training is not just worth it, it’s priceless, and should be a year-round practice.

Proper and appropriate fall protection gear must be provided and workers must be properly trained on how to use it. Further measures must be taken to ensure worker fatigue, dehydration, or lowered mental awareness do not hinder motor skills to prevent slips, trips, and falls. Type 2 helmets must also be worn where falls from height are possible and all the best practices must be propagated and made practical throughout the worksite so workers know them and avoid cutting corners for the sake of time, comfort, or oversight.

Gravity doesn’t care whether you’re tied off or not, or what hard hat you’re wearing, or that you didn’t have enough electrolytes that morning, or that you tied off at the foot level instead of overhead and swung into a beam. Every fall is preventable.

Nobody can fly if the planes aren't operated, stored, and serviced safely.

We at Reliance are proud to service the aviation industry. Thanks to their dedication to safety, we have serviced numerous hangars with our top-of-the-line horizontal systems, mainly the Aluminum Rail Fall Arrest System with Skyloc II Aviation Series SRL's.

In combination, this system provides sub-2ft arrest distances for overhead falls while providing the flexibility to move along the rail, ensuring constant fall protection coverage.

The Skyloc II Aviation Series also uses a high-strength braided Dyneema® rope instead of a metal wire rope, preventing the SRL line from damaging structures such as fuselage skins, leading edge slats, ailerons and flaps.

15 - 30 minutes could save lives.

Every year falls rank as one of the leading causes of death in construction. When it's not a fatality, it often leads to injuries that can leave workers temporarily or permanently disabled.

Regular reminders to spot fall hazards and train workers in best practices are essential to preventing accidents. To that end; OSHA is providing initiatives and resources for the National Safety Stand Down to Prevent Workplace Falls, which begins May 1st-5th.

Anyone in any workplace can participate, and supervisors and safety personnel are encouraged to have their workers stand-down to communicate and refresh worker's knowledge of fall hazards, encourage proper use of PPE, and warn them of the dangers posed by distraction and carelessness on the job.
