There is a huge difference between architecture and civil engineering. Yes, they work together but are vastly different.

Architects work on the overall design of the building (Vertical Construction). What surface does each room need to be? How do these rooms need to be organized in the building, etc. They also design the exterior and are responsible to respect the building codes (aka exit, size, number of toilets, etc.).

Civil engineers work on structural integrity. They look at the design prepared by the architect and make it work. In addition, they gather information on the composition and strength of the soil, then find a solution to make sure the building that the architect designs will stay up.

How they work together will depend on the type of building. For most buildings, they don't have that much interaction. The architect works with the client to find his needs and create coordination drawings. The engineer will look at the drawings, design a structure, and provide a final structural drawing.

The civil engineer’s primary responsibility is the site design
(Horizontal Construction). Elements of design include site layout, paving, and grading, water and sewer services, stormwater management, and site lighting.

Today AutoCAD is an essential program & tool used to expedite the drafting process. Pictured is the drafting process before the computer program was used. Drafters would spend weeks drawing plans by hand!
The rendering, design, and engineering processes are now taken to a more precise and prompt ex*****on thanks to modern CAD capabilities.

Happy Friday Eve!
Check out the design development concept for a proposed building at 205 N Ocean Shore Blvd. This is a highly visible project in the redevelopment area of Flagler Beach. We are nearing completion of the revitalization of the US Ponce Inlet Coast Guard Station. In this project, an emergency vehicle loop, a boat ramp, and a seawall are included. This project also survived hurricanes Ian and Nicole that passed through Florida's coast while it was being built.
