👷‍♂️ B&C Meter Safety Tip to Start Your Week 🦺

Stroke symptoms can appear suddenly, and fast action can save a life. Knowing what to look for and calling 9-1-1 right away can make all the difference.

STROKE SIGNS: B.E. F.A.S.T. — ACT FAST!

Signs and Symptoms

Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance, or lack of coordination
Sudden trouble seeing
Sudden numbness or weakness in the face, arm, or leg, especially on one side
Sudden confusion, trouble speaking, or difficulty understanding speech
Sudden severe headache with no known cause

B.E. F.A.S.T. Warning Signs

B — Balance: Ask if the person feels off-balance or dizzy
E — Eyes: Ask if they are having trouble seeing normally
F — Face: Ask them to smile. Does one side droop?
A — Arms: Ask them to raise both arms. Does one drift downward?
S — Speech: Ask them to repeat a simple phrase. Is the speech slurred or strange?
T — Time: If you see any of these signs, call 9-1-1 right away

What to Do

Call 9-1-1 immediately if stroke symptoms appear
Note the time symptoms first started
Do not drive to the hospital
If symptoms go away, it may still be a TIA (“mini-stroke”) and still needs medical attention

The best stroke treatments work only when symptoms are recognized quickly. Acting fast can make the difference between recovery and lasting damage.

FIRST AID PREPAREDNESS: STAY STOCKED, STAY READY!

OSHA Safety Considerations
Adequate Supplies: Keep first aid supplies readily available based on workplace hazards, workforce size, and emergency response time.
Workplace Hazards: Add supplies for cuts, burns, eye injuries, chemicals, sharp tools, machinery, and electrical hazards.
Accessibility: Place kits where employees can reach them quickly.

Key Safety Controls
Conduct Hazard Assessments: Review tasks, work areas, and past incidents to determine what should be in the kit.
Choose the Right Kit: Use an OSHA- or ANSI-based kit as a starting point, then add items for your specific workplace.
