Great Lakes EV is CLOSED today due to a Level 3 Snow Emergency in Montgomery County Ohio.
To all our customers and friends impacted by the storm this weekend, stay safe!
In our experience, EVs outclass ICE vehicles in almost all winter weather situations. Here are some tips:
- Keep your EV plugged in, and consider charging to 100% as an emergency backup
- If you have to drive, precondition for 20-30 minutes beforehand to get the battery nice and warm, the car will run more efficiently than from a cold start.
- EVs do great in snow, but only as good as your tires!
- Regen braking in snow is incredible if you do it right. If you have traction moving forward, you'll have equal traction using regen - just make sure you're lifting the accelerator pedal gently, with the same caution as pressing it in slick conditions.
- In a power outage, even EVs without vehicle-to-grid charging can help you out. Running the climate while parked can give you a warm enclosed space in an emergency that will last many hours, with no concerns about fumes.
Enjoy the snow everyone! ❄️🔋
