Although the name of this organization may lead you to think your majors and ethnicity/background do not allow you to take part in it, I'll be the one to tell you that is not the case. SHPE is not exclusive and is expanding as an organization not just for engineers, but for all majors in the STEM fields as well as individuals of all backgrounds. The UD-SHPE Student Chapter is one of many SHPE chap
ters within Region 6. We strive to empower all of our members to not only realize their full potential as Hispanic and minority students, but to use this realization and excel both in their academic and professional careers with all STEM fields. Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math are high demanding fields that are in need of outstanding individuals with the confidence and capability to carry out intensive work ethic and performance. As a professional organization, we will do our best to exemplify these qualities and encourage every new member to come, to do the same. In SHPE, we will do what is within our power to help our members achieve and enhance these qualities through national and regional conferences, professional workshops, and seminars. Become part of the SHPE Familia and find support whereever you go with over 250 chapters and 10,000 members across the nation. Last but not least, UD-SHPE submitted a proposal to host a regional conference for SHPE in March in 2013 and got elected! This conference totals to about $45,000 and being a part of the planning committee for this event will look outstanding on your resume and show a high level of leadership, especially being involved as a freshman. It will also allow you to stand out from a large number of students, given the fact that SHPE hosts the biggest National Conferences for the STEM fields in the country and is very well known nation-wide.
