When a single chip is dissipating 1kW, air cooling is no longer an option. Direct-to-chip liquid cooling with cold plates is now the standard for any high density AI server architecture. The physics simply don’t leave room for debate.

But cold plates introduce a mechanical reality that doesn’t get talked about enough:
The cold plate has to be fastened to the stiffener. Securely.

That means your cold-plate fastening solution is now part of your thermal management system. A heat-sink screw that shifts, strips, or loosens is a thermal risk.
