Waste is set to increase to 3.88 billion tons per year by 2050, a 73% increase from 2020, and landfills will remain a part of municipal solid waste (MSW) management strategies in municipalities around the world.

Areas that are running out of space for landfills can capitalize on the emissions the existing landfills create with LFG to energy projects. For municipalities, LFG capture and LFG to energy projects may be a part of a sustainability strategy for waste management.

Learn more about LFG to energy below.

Landfill gas (LFG) to energy is a type of waste-to-value technology in which methane and carbon dioxide are captured from landfills and transformed into renewable natural gas (RNG), vehicle fuel, or electricity.

One year ago today we welcomed Emmie DeFusco to the Nexus PMG team!

Emmie moved to Greenville, SC in 2017, and originally hails from Maryland. She studied engineering at West Virginia University and has previous work experience in building recycled products and telecommunications manufacturing facilities in process engineering, R&D engineering, and materials management capacities.

It was her role in materials management where she discovered there is typically a disconnect between finance and engineering and manufacturing groups.

This realization inspired her to go back to school to get a master’s degree in finance at Southern New Hampshire University. While working toward her finance degree online, she left manufacturing for an opportunity to work in financial services. In the three years before coming to Nexus PMG, she held roles in IT and treasury and capital markets teams.

Emmie brings this unique culmination of experience to the Nexus PMG team, merging her two distinct paths into one as Senior Business Risk Analyst.

Thanks for all that you do to help us , Emmie!

The carbon intensity of RNG derived from animal manure through anaerobic digestion (AD) is up to eight times lower than conventional natural gas.

RNG derived from food and green waste via AD also have a lower carbon intensity than natural gas derived from fossil fuels. In fact, they're carbon negative.

Because state renewable portfolio standards consider biogas from anaerobic digesters a form of renewable energy, AD is aiding the nation’s transition to renewable energy.
